Default For the poet in us

I don't claim to be a poet but here is something that I wrote.
      ^:)^
      ADDICTION
      It is powerful,
      It is deceptive,
It stalks me night and day,
      It uses my shame,
      It uses my guilt,
      It gets me to act-out,
I felt there was no control,
I felt there was no hope,
      Then I found the twelve,
      They gave me Hope,
      They gave me Strength,
      They gave me Courage,
      To put It behind me,
      To embrace recovery,
      I name It,
      An It is addiction.
      by

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage and the strength to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

May your feet stay on the path to recovery

Default I agree with your poem

Your poem expresses something powerful, that is, that just naming the addiction an addiction already begins a shift of mindset that puts us in a position where we can succeed. And naming something is a positive act, an act of will. Think about how powerful it is to name a child, or re-name oneself after a spouse upon marriage (if one so chooses). Naming is making a choice and attaching meaning to that choice. Naming it addiction means unveiling its hideousness and declaring war upon it without quarter.
