Default Sept Challenge- Help someone/help yourself

I am an SO, but I want to pose a September Challenge.

Do you think people in Haiti recovering from an earthquake are looking at P? Do you think all the people across the midwest tried to get there computers up and running asap after the tornadoes so they could get back to P? I think not! Those people were helping each other and helping themselves. I think both PAs and SOs on this site get a bit stuck in a circle of thinking about P and themselves and then P is the whole world. Its Not!

Challenge: Commit to helping someone this month. Step outside your comfort zone and think of someone else.

Some ideas: Mow someone's yard. Watch your neighbor's kid so they can go out. Help at a homeless shelter. Help at the food bank. Socialize dogs at the pound. Do a beach clean up. Take a bag with you and pick up trash in your neighborhood.

Post your idea to help someone and then do it.
TTF- The suckiest place to have to be but the best place to be if you have to be somewhere like this.

Its hard to quit something when you just like it so much. I have that problem with ice cream, but I can run off ice cream. Can you run off P?

We all are moving on, like it or not. It may be difficult to let go of the past but it's gone regardless. (by City Fool)

      Default I accept my challenge!

      I accept the Sept challenge.

I plan to take a bag with me when I take a walk in the neighborhood at least three times and pick up trash.

I plan to watch my neighbor's 2 kids so she and her husband can go on a date. This is a challenge... an infant and a rowdy toddler!

As I help my neighborhood and my neighbor, I will think about how I need to spend more time living and less time worrying about things I can't control.

      I accept the September challenge.

I'll have to think about what my plan is and post here when I decide what I'm going to do.

      Peace,
      ~C~

      Excellent idea!

We learned yesterday that a 49-yr old neighbor has what sounds like terminal, fast-moving cancer.

We will help the family (in a very small way) by providing a meal.

      I accept the September challenge!
I will dedicate a day/evening a week trying to enrich the life of a friend who has Parkinsons. I will try to brighten her day with visits, lunch out, enlisting others to visit, calling etc. to try to make her feel appreciated and alive!
      I look forward to it!

wow, you know today is the anneversary of hurricane katrina? my wife and I are both hurricane evacuee's (she wrote a book in fact!) and your post just reminds me of how many people we helped during that time. as someone who is a PA/SA, i don't ever remember having ANY urges other than to SURVIVE during that time and to make sure my family was taken care of.
We both volunteered at a local fire department and helped so many displaced families during that time. it wsa really such a life changing expierience. thank you so much for reminding me of the value of charity and helping other people :)

I accept the challenge, actually I've did something for it today as I spent the afternoon helping my friend's parents cut up/break up wood.

It's a pretty satisfying feeling to have done something useful for someone rather than just sitting around doing nothing.

      Great idea WoNLM! :)
The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle: the roar of the crowd on the one side, and the voice of your conscience on the other. - Douglas MacArthur

"'Thou mayest rule over sin,' Lee. That's it. I do not believe all men are destroyed. I can name you a dozen who were not, and they are the ones the world lives by. It is true of battles - only the winners are remembered. Surely most men are destroyed, but there are others who like pillars of fire guide frightened men through the darkness. 'Thou mayest!' What glory! It is true that we are weak and sick and quarrelsome, but if that is all we ever were we would, millenniums ago, have disappeared from the face of the earth. A few remnants of fossilised jawbone, some broken teeth in a strata of limestone, would be the only mark man would have left of his existance in the world. But the choice, Lee, the choice of winning!" - East of Eden by John Steinbeck

Okay, I know what I'm going to do-- one real world thing, and one online thing.

Real world: I know several people who are injured, or have an illness that causes joint pain. I'm going to sew up some of those rice bags that you can stick in the microwave/freezer and send them as a surprise gift that will make them feel better.

Online: I know many people who are hurting because of a bunch of different reasons-- not just here, but all over the place. People I know are dealing with all sorts of the bad side of life, and I will commit myself to write an email or message every day to the people who could really use a bit of encouragment.

I can't do much, because of my thumb, but I CAN do this, and I hope it helps spread a little bit of sunshine. :)
You, yes YOU, whether a PA, a SA, or a SO, are a person of infinite worth and value. You have power far beyond what you know, and strength in abundance. You might not feel like it right now.... but it's true.
