      Default Journal lockdown

I just have a suggestion, and I don't know if this is even possible to do

I know it is hard at times, to always have a Mod here, to keep an eye on the site. All of our Mods work do hard, to keep this a safe place to come to for the help with our Addiction. With that said, I understand, they still have a life of there own to take care of, and their will be times when no ADMIN or MODS are on line here.

I know at times, we get people who just love, to put posts here, that can just destroy the hard work, that us addicts are doing to keep free from this addiction. they put links up, that can trigger so many in recovery.

Here is my question, and like I said, I do not even no if it is possible to do something like this or not.

Is there a way, to add something to TTF, that if we come upon a post that contains "triggers" and we hit the Report post tap, that it locks down this journal, until a Admin or Mod, has a chance to delete what was posted?
I worry about this, because, most of us here, know, we should not click on any links, that are here. but if a new member come on, and he doesn't know it can be a bad link, just think what it would do to his freshly started recovery

I am not saying, that now we have power to lock someone Journal, I say we do this, ONLY if there is no Admin or Mod here to report it to.

Just a suggestion, as I worry about someone, being triggered, in the place they feel safe to be at

Thanks INOH, and I do understand your concern and suggestion. I think your concept is right, but by giving that functionality also opens up other potential risks.

I am pondering on the idea that new members First posts, will automatically have to be moderated before they can post freely. Some other sites do this, but again, this does require extra work from the team, and as it stands, they all give so much of their time at the moment.

But please consider your suggestion as acknowledged, and we will address this risk/threat as soon as possible.

      Kind Regards

Would it be possible to disable board tags, such as URL and IMG, until a new user has, say, 50 posts?

Just my 2 cents: I think it's important to allow a brand new member to post right away without delays due to waiting for an admin to review it. There is risk, but I think that an addict who has made the step to come over to this site needs to have an easy experience in getting involved with TTF and shouldn't have to wait through delays. For many, that delay may mean they loose their resolve and don't come back to TTF. That being said, I think that Phil is right on when he mentions the possibility of limiting privileges like inserting links and stuff.

I was thinking, that should there be such a report button - we could make it behave in a way that would eliminate the threat of someone abusing it to the absolute minimum.

One way to do that, would be: whenever someone hits the report button on a thread, the thread does not automatically lock down by itself, but instead the title of the thread would change in a way that there would be an added text "Warning - may contain inapproppriate material" and maybe it could be displayed in red also so that people's attention would be caught and then they themselves could make the decision whether they wanted to view the thread or not.

It would make it easy for people who are feeling weak at the moment to just let that thread be (at least for the time being until the mod has the time to check out the thread for the possibility of inapproppriateness) and still it would grant the person wanting to read the new messages just that ability.

It doesn't eliminate the problems of neither people abusing the current system nor people abusing this new system completely, but it would be a compromise to the better direction in my opinion.

Having said that, I acknowledge the possibility of someone still abusing the new system and making every single tread look like a potentially hazardous one, so it's not fool-proof. But if the kicks gotten out of such trolling would be so low, I do not think that there would be many people willing to do that...
