Exclamation Site Information - Important news

      Dear Throughtheflame Members

The TTF team have always attempted to be as transparent as possible in clearly stating what the objective of the site is, and what it looks to achieve. While maintaining this objective has not always been
understood, but I believe it has been respected that all we are trying to do is provide the very best platform to support the recovery of all those affected by PA, in a simple, clear and unobtrusive way.

Continuing the transparency, I would like to take a moment to share a little more information with you about the running of this site.

Throughtheflame was originally founded by one twenty something man in California who was addicted to P. He initially sought help from
A number of forum driven websites, however found that all were very religious driven. While he was a spiritual man, he felt that it was distracting from the main task at hand which was to rid his addiction of P. He finally decided to take it upon himself and start up a website.

In 2007 the founder created Throughtheflame.org, The name was derived from a U2 song called “Bad” from their Joshua tree Album. The lyrics to this song which was about addiction in general inspired the founder and hence the name.

From 2007 to 2008 The founder had helped hundreds of members from USA, UK, Australia, France, New Zealand, Germany... (you get the idea) and it was clear that the recipe for success was down to this fantastic community supporting each other and pushing each other to achieve success. Naturally as the site grew, the time to maintain the site became significantly more, and towards the end of 2008, The founder stated that due to increasing work and travel commitments that he could no longer support TTF. During this time, I had acknowledged my PA, and through the assistance of Members from TTF, I managed to get myself on track and save my marriage. When I was advised that TTF could possibly be no more, I felt a huge obligation to step in and continue, as from my own experience I knew this site can save thousands of relationships and even lives. I was indebted to this site, and will continue to be indefinitely.

So why am I sharing this with everyone now? I have personally been running this site for over 2 years now and surprisingly I have a life outside of TTF with a regular job, a regular mortgage a loving wife and 2 children that look like angels but are truly little devils. With my so called “normal life” I am by no means a technical guru, or website Whizz, nor do I claim to be. But somehow I have learnt and continued to develop with the huge support and sacrificed time of the Moderators and Admins that are the TTF Team. 4 years on and TTF has now grown so much that over the last few months the site activity has increased a little more than anticipated and that has resulted in a number of members experiencing error screens on the site. This was sadly due to us hitting a limit on the number of concurrent sessions we could have open at one time. So I would like to sincerely apologise to any members that experienced this technical difficulty.

Therefore we are now faced with a major upgrade to facilitate, for both technical and financial reasons, this really daunted me, as the costs of running TTF is ever increasing, despite being offered several advertising and sponsor deals I have always maintained that TTF will remain clean and commercial free and yet again focus on the core objective of providing the very best platform to aid recovery.

So for the last 4 years we have depended on the generous donations from our community, and 2010 was the first year we actually broke even.

I was faced with a dilemma just a few weeks ago, with continued reports of site errors and I had to quickly decide if TTF was to stay alive or not simply for the reason that I was unsure if I was comfortable to take on the significant increase in cost to maintain the growth of TTF. I deliberated with the TTF Team, and all raised their hands and offered support in which I was truly overwhelmed by, and I was encouraged by the team to share this (our current situation) with a the whole community. Thanks to some very generous donations, we have now secured a new powerful server, which can cater for our continual growing needs. For this site to grow, I am not comfortable in the site remaining as it is, and as mentioned in the new year’s message we have many exciting plans to upgrade the whole, look, feel and functionality of the site. Again because Throughtheflame was created for a reason, and I believe we can evolve our site to cater for that reason tenfold.

Shortly I will be making a post detailing our staggered upgrade from servers initially, to the whole new site. We will of course always limit downtime and disruption, but inevitably there will be a few days of limited access to the site, while the data is physically copied from one server to another.

I apologise for the long winded post, and hope that I have gained a little more insight into what Throughtheflame is all about. If its hasn’t been made clear, allow me to clarify. Throughtheflame is about you, it is your site, and you can gain and draw as much success from it as you put into it. This is the simple formula of success!

With that, I would also encourage you to question yourself if you have gained something from this site, what is that worth to you? Has TTF saved your partner? Has TTF brought love back into your relationship? Has TTF kept you clean? Has TTF brought you a new way of thinking about addiction? Has TTF made you feel like part of a family and a new circle of friends? If yes to any of these things, ask yourself what is that worth? If you think it is worth something show us your support here.

Thank you to everyone for making TTF what it is today, and I wish you nothing but happiness and clear path to achieving your goals.

      Warmest Regards

      Admin2

      Admin 2 -
Being a new member it was really nice to hear the history - even though i am a minister the fact that the site is not heavy with christian dogma is a plus as it can detract from the core purpose of changing a habit - obviously i think religion can be indispensible in any recovery, but i would whole heartedly suppport the continued policy of limiting dogma on the site - to paraphrase the Buddha: I don't care why the house is on fire, just get me out.

Wow, Thank you for all that you do here!

I have gained friends from this site, love, compassion, support that I didnt have before, on such a profound level I cant even explain, It has given me sobriety, it has given me strength, a sense of family, hope, a place to come when i'm doing well and when i'm not, where people will be there for me just the same, a perfect example of unconditional love.

I don't have much, I am just scraping by financially, but I will save for a few months and donate what I can, or I suppose I could just give a little each month, I will figure it out. My only worry in this is

      1. If you get my credit card number, then you have my real name.

      2. I don't want to insult you with a small donation, I wish I was rich so I could give you more.

I am truly blessed to have found this forum, and I will contribute any way that I can.

Why dont you just make your donation through a PayPal account. If you truly are that concerned about TTF, knowing who you are, then this will be the best way to do it. All your informational will stay with the pay pal company

And I dont mean nothing bad in what I am going to say. Many of us today, are just living paycheck to paycheck, and that is all we can do. I f you truly want to donate something, the amount you give to TTF, will not by any means, be an insult to them. Just do what you can do from your heart, and you will be blessed for doing it
