Dear ThroughTheFlame Members,
My intention was to initially to say a few words about the site and our intended plans prior to the new year. Unfortunately like everyone real life does have a tendency to get in the way and interrupt our schedule.
Last year we had much to sing about, and this year we have even more to shout about!
2010 saw the biggest influx of new members, while many sites will see this as an excellent statistic, it never ceases to sadden me, as it makes me realise that the effects of Pornography are hitting more and more. The TTF team make it their duty to ensure that this site remains positive and helpful for each and every member, and the success stories are the only statistic we now focus on.
2010 also saw a shift in balance between activity from SO's to PA's, which has meant we have had to take on another female moderator to assist with what can be a very sensitive time for new SO members.
One of the SO's that I would personally like to recognise is WifeOfNewLifeMan. I have followed her journey from her start here, and have been thoroughly impressed with her attitude to recovery, with a good healthy balance of care, respect and brevity. If you haven’t read her journey, I would highly recommend this to you, as both PA's & SO's can learn a lot from the way she has taken her own recovery from hurt and pain, while supporting her partner.
I would also like to recognise the fantastic contribution from all members that entered into the xmas 2010 competition, there was such fantastic quality, and every piece of creative writing was excellent, and of course the winning entries of Cupcakemomma and Hopeful's Rock were well deserved of the prize!
This is just one of the reasons why TTF stands out from many of the other recovery sites, where there are real people, who collectively share their experiences, successes and failures to combine joint knowledge and allow every other member to tap in to what is now becoming one of the most central points of knowledge on Pornography addiction on the internet.
Another member that is deserved of recognition is FoolishMind for achieving 3 years sobriety, which is a huge achievement and I hope many members will be able to mimic strategies and plans to emulate this.
Last but not least, it is sometimes a thankless task, sometimes they operate like ghosts, you hardly notice that they are there, but we all know they are there when we need them. The Moderator Team. I would like to personally thank Vorlan, Crisodian, Daniel, Jennmac, Mefree & Rowlf for their dedication to this site and members, and I hope you all agree with me that they are true stars for sacrificing their own time to manage this site on a day to day basis.
Whats happening in 2011?
2011, will see a big change for Throughtheflame.org, as we have decided to upgrade the forums in what will be quite a significant change which will provide members with increased functionality, as well as an improved and modernised look and feel.
The site upgrade is anticipated to occur in the last week of April, in which there will be planned downtime. Announcements on this will be made with more detail over the next few months.
Part of the reason for this is due to increased membership activity, which is having a knock on effect to page load times. If you are not aware ThroughTheFlame is a non profit organisation and we rely solely on donations to help us break even. So please do try and support this site and keep us going from strength to strength to help our fellow members. You can find out more about how you can support us here.
2011, will also see a lot more competitions coming your way, so always keep your eyes peeled for writing competitions, and even game arcade tournaments.
Due to the xmas 2010 Competition we were unable to run Member Of The Year in December, so this will be announced by the first week of February, and details on voting will be explained then.
And Finally...
Relating to increased membership activity, 2010 saw the most activity in terms of moderation of posts/threads. The primary reason is quite simply due to not all members being aware or taking the time to read the site rules. There are also some issues that have cropped up that are not detailed in the rules, but would fall under common courtesy.
For the benefit of all I would like to clarify these as this year it is key that all members gain maximum benefit from the knowledge of the site and not get distracted by members who choose not to follow normal protocol.
Too Much Information (TMI)
This site is visited by thousands of PA's, many PA's read through this site at a time of weakness, and look to draw strength from it. Therefore it is inappropriate for members to post detailed sexual descriptions, celebrity names, films, clubs, locations etc.
Avatars / Profile Image
This is simple, do not use an image of yourself or any other photographed image of a person.
Posting External Website Links
If you wish to share an article, video, podcast, you will need to submit the link to a member of the TTF team, and request permission to post. The TTF Team member will review the content, and all surrounding content from the site that it is hosted, and if approved will confirm acceptance to post. Links that are posted without gained permission, will be automatically removed.
Respect
We are all here because we are directly or indirectly affected by PA. This can cause us stress, and allow us to be somewhat more emotional than usual. Members that do not show respect, or cause unnecessary stress or are constantly causing a disruption is not acceptable. Please remember even through you cannot see a member face to face, you should apply common courtesy as if you were.
Members that annoy you
I have mentioned several times that the site is growing. Like in real life we all come across people that we simply don’t get along with. Within this forum it is much the same, and with a growth in the membership, this may become more prevalent. You should therefore be aware that you can use the Forum IGNORE feature, which mean when you login, you will not see that members name or posts anywhere. This feature can be access from your profile page, in EDIT IGNORE LIST.
I hope you will all support TTF's primary goal in being the number one source for supporting PA's and SO's. We are a very proactive community that do not want to distract from the primary reason we are here. TTF has helped men rebuild their lives and become a better person. TTF has helped couples save their marriage, and it is all due to the collective wisdom brought forward by you.
So please do treat this site as yours, help us to make it better, tell us your ideas and suggestions, let us know if you are concerned about a member, and if they need extra help, let us know if a member is causing trouble. We are in this together, and we will help each other be truly Porn Free.
Wishing each and every one of you the very best of success for 2011 and beyond.
