Lightbulb Member of the Year Award 2008

With the end of the year drawing closer the Admin team would like offer a "Member of the Year Award".

Firstly all members should nominate 2 members names via PM to myself. Please place the word "nominations" in the subject line. Deadline for nomination entry is 1st December 2008

The top 10 nominations will then be entered into a secret poll.
All members will then have the ability to make ONE vote for who they think should be awarded the Member of the Year of Award.

The winner will be announced on Monday 29th December 2008.
The winner will be donned with a very snazzy badge against all their posts. They will also receive a prize worth $50.

When nominating please consider the following:
      • Who has influenced you the most?
      • Who in your eyes, has selflessly helped many TTF members?
      • Who has made huge acheivement in their own personal battle?
      • If an SO, has the SO selflessly taken the time to understand and help others?
      • Who has had problems, yet not been shy to talk about them and learn from them?
      • Who do you consider an asset to TTF?
      FAQs

Can I only nominate people that have been members for a year?
No you can nominate someone that joined yesterday.

Does it matter if the member has had a relapse?
No it doesnt matter, What matters is what you feel about that member when nominating?

What if the member I want to nominate is no longer active?
Please feel free to nominate, if they are in the top ten, we will endevour to contact them.

What if the member I want to nominate has been banned?
You will be unable to nominate banned members

Can I change my mind later if ive already PMd my nominations?
Unfortunatley no. Please think carefully about your nominations before clicking send.

Will I receive an acknowledgement following my nomination PM?
Unfortunatley not. Due to numbers of PMs received, this will not be feasible.

If I have a question that isnt listed here what should I do?
If its related to this award, then please PM admin2. For anything else, please PM one of the moderators first.

      Kind Regards

      The TTF Team

Talking Congratulations to the Member of the Year for 2008

(drum roll)............. The Admin team are delighted to announce that Vorlan has been voted the Member of the Year for 2008.

Vorlan joined TTF on the 21st April 2008 and has demonstrated huge strength of character, to battle on his own journey. He has shown great humility and constantly seeked to improve his mindset and knowledge. Along with that, he helped countless members in their own personal journeys.

And if that were not enough, he has been the most active TTF Moderator and driving force within the TTF team.

Vorlan thank you for all your efforts. I have PM'd you with more details on your award.

Finally the TTF team would like to thank all members that took the time to complete the survey and vote.

There will be a new year message posted from the admin team in the next few days, sharing our plans for 2009.

Well done Vorlan... (perhaps a speech now?)

      Default Speech...

      Well a speech....wow....to be honest I'm gobsmacked :)

First off thanks to everyone who voted for me, I'm totally overwhelmed :) I never expected to win! >:D<

Also thanks to everyone else who stood, it looks like it was very close (from what A2 said) and there are tons of other members who deserve recognition.

My time on TTF began 251 days ago 21st of April 2008 after a particularlly long and unpleasant P session I searched Wikipedia for PA and found a list of websites offering support for addicts. One of these was TTF.

At the time I was still strongly addicted and I had spent the last 5-6 years attempting to beat my addiction on my own. In the worst stages of my PA I was reduced to self-harming and suicidal thoughts.

I didn't like the look of the other websites as they seemed too strongly biased towards Christian beliefs and 12 step programmes. ( I've nothing against Christians or people who use 12 step programmes but that method of quitting doesn't work for me.) So I chose TTF. Best decision of my life...period. (except perhaps the decision to give up P)

I made my first post here: Hi everybody in the new members area. This was my first real contact with anyone about my addiction. I had always thought of PA as a something unusual and solitary, I thought that it was my problem and that no-one else would have the same problem or understand it.

Needless to say I was proved wrong, I recieved three comments. One from LookingForward77, one from Cobalt and one from AnxiouslyEngaged. These started my TTF journey. The day after I started my journal and started to write down my story. By commiting it to paper (well cyberspace technically) I felt like I could commit it to the past. As my journal grew I met many people who were to become hugely important to me over the months.

My journey got off to abit of a rocky start and I relapsed on the 4th of May (12 days after joining) and again the day after.

This was not the end though as I was supported and guided by FoolishMind, Cobalt, AE, Nordman and many other members. I re-worked my strategy and started again, this time with success.

50 days and much support and struggle later I was made a Moderator to my delight as it gave me more tools I could use to fight against P.

Now at 236 days clean I have decided I am no longer addicted but I have dedicated myself to eternal vigilance and continuing to fight P regardless.

I couldn't have got where I am today without a huge amount of support from a huge amount of people from the TTF community. FM, AE, Farmer, Dominus, HalfPint, Admin, Fuzzball67, A2, Daniel, LL, Nordman, Inshi, Walkman, Showmelove, Glovert, Dave, Dave42, Light, Slave, Vilema, TTC, Rowlf, Toria, FH, Avegan, Scooter, Cmperry, livada, Dray, LuckyMan, Jacksinn, Jack, Abbie, FairyG, Searchingforpeace, LPA, Newman, Castaway, Bird-boy and so many more it is incredible.

This brilliant community has been built by everyone here, I think that TTF is in itself an incredible achievement of human decency and moral determination.

If you consider that this site is pretty much exclusively made up of PAs and their partners it is incredible what we have achieved together. We (PAs really I'm talking about here) are people who are usually ranked amoung the lowest in human society, we watched disgusting sxual acts and pleasured ourselves to it. We locked ourselves away and rotted our morals and personalities away to feed our addiction. Given that these are the people we are made up of a sceptic might assume that this forum would never amount to much more than a place where we exchanged links. But they would be wrong. Because we came together and told our stories, we found solidarity together. As we wiped away the grime of years of addiction and waste we uncovered personalities long covered, kindness long stifled and forgotton hope long snuffed out. The forum grew exponentially and more and more people joined the site. Although we speak in English on the site we have members of from all around the world, of all ages and from all walks of life here. Alone we may be weak and ignorant but together we became stronger and our collective wisdom became greater and greater. We found that we were not lowlifes or sub-humans. We were people, we found we had poets, artists, musicians, writers and heros. We found inspiration from eachother and from the new love and hope we found blossoming inside us.

TTF has become more than just a website, it connects us together and makes us all better as we all put in what we have and everyone can benifit from everything put in.

So thank you for this honour and thank you for TTF, the most beautiful and inspirational thing I know!

      Ben

The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle: the roar of the crowd on the one side, and the voice of your conscience on the other. - Douglas MacArthur

"'Thou mayest rule over sin,' Lee. That's it. I do not believe all men are destroyed. I can name you a dozen who were not, and they are the ones the world lives by. It is true of battles - only the winners are remembered. Surely most men are destroyed, but there are others who like pillars of fire guide frightened men through the darkness. 'Thou mayest!' What glory! It is true that we are weak and sick and quarrelsome, but if that is all we ever were we would, millenniums ago, have disappeared from the face of the earth. A few remnants of fossilised jawbone, some broken teeth in a strata of limestone, would be the only mark man would have left of his existance in the world. But the choice, Lee, the choice of winning!" - East of Eden by John Steinbeck
