      Default Dreams

I struggled with which forum to post this thread. Spirituality is where I obviously chose.

Been alot of talk on the site lately about dreams. I would love if we could share those dreams that we believe have some significant meaning, and maybe offer insight to others. I think it is a very interesting topic and can be a good indicator of our emotional struggles, victories, etc. I think we'll be suprised to learn the subjects that are the same for some of us.

I have many many vivid dreams that I have "logged" into my memory as important messages. And yes, I do believe they can be "messages" to ourselves. But the first one I'll share is a reoccuring one....

I have ALWAYS had reoccuring dreams of tornados. Since I was a teenager. I always see them, off in the distance, and I find myself trying to warn others that a tornado is coming. Sometimes they are huge, wide, massive tornados white in color. Sometimes they are skinny and thin, sometimes they are dark and black and eerie.

The theme is always me knowing about them coming, me warning and letting everyone know that we have to take shelter. Noone has ever been hurt from them in my dreams, I am always able to warn everyone and take action.

BUT......one particular time I did dream that I got caught up in the tornado. And feeling like this was going to be awful.....but the tornado laid me down ever so softly in a big field of green grass, no crash landing or fall, just gently placed into the grass while the tornado moved on. Very comforting to this day to reflect on that.

I used to have a recurring dream about climbing through a tunnel. I am scared of confined spaces so you can imagine how terrifying this was for me. However I always saw a light at the end of the tunnel but as soon as I reached it I would be gripped by fear of the opening not being large enough to allow me to pass through. I have not had that dream in some time now.

Another dream I've had very often was one where I was able to leap tall distances effortlessly. This dream always leaves me feeling full of hope.

Perhaps your dream means that the knowledge of a greater power is coming towards you. One that would transform the very landscape. At first something like this scares us but as you saw the one time you did get wrapped up the tornado it deposited you in a wonderful safe place.

      Thanks for sharing.

I don't have much to add on the topic of dreams and what we can learn from them, but I wanted to say Charly that I have a recurring tornado dream, too. I think, though, it is just a combination of watching Wizard of Oz over and over as a kid, and reading the Little House on the Prairie book with tornadoes in it over and over.

      Charly-

I wish I dreamed about tornadoes. I had recurring toilet dreams. The dreams changed over the years, but the theme was the same. The toilet was unsafe, disgusting, wobbly, public... and i had to use it. Over the years, the toilet has become less and less awful, and a few months ago I dreamed that I had to use a perfectly nice public toilet and I walked in with my bare feet and everything was fine. Totally wierd and I have no idea why I would have these dreams, but there you go!

Its hard to quit something when you just like it so much. I have that problem with ice cream, but I can run off ice cream. Can you run off P?

Whoa... I have toilet dreams, too! Weird. Except it's usually at a big place like a school, and I'm new there and ask where the washrooms are. I get there, and then it's something like all the doors are missing on the stalls, or it's just one big room with a bunch of toilets in it, or something similar. And then I spend a bunch of time wandering around, trying to find a toilet with privacy.

But again, I think the cause is pretty straightforward. Generally when I wake up from a dream like this, I really need to pee. I think it's just my body's anxiety about the fact that I need a bathroom, but I'm asleep in bed and can't get to one.

It is my opinion that the subject matter in dreams are not the important thing. I do believe dreams can be a message, or an indicator of some things. What I think is important is the EMOTION underneath the subject matter. For instance, what emotion is underneath the dirty toilet dreams? What emotion is underneath the approaching tornado? What emotion is underneath the small tunnell? Is it fear that you experienced when facing that small tunnell or bridge? Is it fear of what will happen if you have to use that dirty toilet?

So, while the images and physical items may differ, or be the same for alot of us, the essence underneath is the message. I feel this same way about religion or God. God appears to us in ways we can comprehend. While many countries and cultures' religions have different symbols and icons and different prophets and saviors, the essence underneath it all is the same.

When my father died when I was a young teenager, I remembered my mother telling me long ago that my father never believed in god. After his funeral, I had a very chilling and disturbing and vivid dream:

I saw my sister and I, laying in a casket, each in our own casket, we were not dead, but laying in these caskets. These caskets were inside this huge dark cold cave. My father was there, and approached these caskets, and he took my hand and helped me out of the casket, and he guided me around this cave, as if he were "showing me something"...he never spoke a word, just led me. This cave had a ceiling/top, as all caves do, but, he led me to the edge of the cliff our caskets were on, and showed me what was over that cliff....it was bottomless.....dark.....scary.....the cave was cold, lonely, dark, the bottomless pit felt like a warning to me. I didn't understand why he was showing me around this place. I just knew it was not a place of comfort or happiness. I felt like he was trying to show me something.

That was all I remember of the dream.

      Was it my bioligical father?

Was it my heavenly father, using the only image of "father" that I would recognize?

I still struggle with the message behind this dream.

Or is it just my fear that my father was not a believer, and my fear that he is in the bottomless pit?
