Default Count Down To A New Life

      Day 1 -

I've read that the AA program says it takes 90 days to break a habit. I've decided to keep a record and count my way to 90 (or beyond). I'm going to do this for my future family and the friends who need me now and in the future. I'm doing this because I believe that God leads us all to remove the planks from our own eyes before we point out the splinters in others eyes. So, here we go!

"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches."
      -Proverbs 24:3,4

Excellent. I am also trying to do the same thing.
I encourage you to join the 100 days count thread, it is a very very helpful way of looking forward to goals, and keeping track of where you are up to.

Welcome King! Glad you have joined us. . . however, this is an online support community, not a twelve step program related to the recovery from alcoholism. Furthermore, nowhere in the AA program does it say that it takes 90 days to break a habit. It is a program co-founded by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob. While both attained sobriety back in the late 1930's and remained sober for the rest of their lives, Dr. Bob was never fully relieved of his craving for alcohol. Bill Wilson, on the other hand, suffered from suicidal depression for the first 9 years of his sobriety. In other words, pain is the price of admission to a new life, and to believe that life is going to be wonderful after just 90 days of abstinence is delusional. That is not to undermine the fact that monumental changes are not possible within that time frame, but to undergo an entire psychic change takes a looooong time.

I hope you post often. . . I look forward to following your journey!

"Right action is the key to good living!"

"You cannot think your way into good living, you must live your way into good thinking!"

"A clean conscience is a soft pillow."

      Beyond a wholesome discipline,
      be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
      no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Thanks for the goal rescope and the warnings. I'll be sure to visit and seek/give help whenever I can.

      Day 2-

While driving to a restaurant for our dinner date, my SO joked at me, "You seem agitated at the other drivers?" I said, "No, I'm tired of bad drivers!" the reason this was a joke is that I have a bad habit of yelling at the radio, other drivers, people who aren't even in the car with me, etc.... I after my response I immediately thought of an article on this website that spoke about some 'agitation' during the journey... Strange how things redefine even our smallest actions.

      Day 7-

Went home for the weekend (no internet access so I couldn't post). I'm having some "trouble" today. I'm noticing more triggers; so, I decided to visit the forum. I need to muster up some strength and this seems like the best resource to turn to.

      Reset to 0-

Didn't bother with the forum, friends or even turning the computer off. Didn't ask for help because "I can do it by myself". very upsetting...

I read just now at the bottom of someone signature about K9 web protection. I put in a pretty complex password that I hope I forget.

Keep up the good work. Even though you went back to zero, it's a higher zero than you were at before.

K9 is a great idea and has really helped me. With the password, I suggest you make one that is impossible to remember, and then send it to someone you trust for safekeeping.

Keep coming back here! Lots of people read your journal, even when there are no replies.
