Question Anyone have experience with SLAA?

I have been looking into finding a 12-step group near me, and the only ones around are SLAA groups, and I am super confused because they say they are "SLAA Affiliated" so I dont even know if this is what I am looking for although I found them through the regional SLAA website.
So I was just wondering if anyone has had a good experience with them in the past or could provide some information? I am looking to attend the meetings either this week or next!

      Thanks!

I have attended some SLAA meetings and one conference. In our area, the differences with SAA appear
minimal, and several persons, including myself, attend both, on occasion. SLAA has made a special (and successful)
effort to attract women. I think you just have to go--indeed, more than once-- and see who turns up, since my 'sample'
of a few dozen SLAA members can hardly predict your experience. I might also mention that day of the week,
and time of day have a tremendous influence on attendance. So a Tuesday midday group might not resemble
      a Friday evening group.
I'd say 'good experience,' but the key thing is what you are looking for, in particular a 12-Step approach. Look
at the AA 'big book' is you don't know what that is.

I really do not know anything about SLAA, but I do go to SAA every Saturday morning, and I need to be honest with you. I will never stop going. I don't really think that there is that much of a difference in them though. SAA just means, addicted to S*x, and SLAA is S*x and LOVE.

either way, I feel you will get what you need out of it. you will hear so many difference opinions on that they don't help. Well I don't agree with that at all. to me the key is, in how you feel about the meeting the first time you walk in there.. Here is why I say this.

there are so many who do not give the meetings a chance, because they did not like the PEOPLE that was there. they just did not feel comfortable while they were there. so if you don't feel comfortable, find a other meeting to go to, if there is more in your area, and go to the one, that you feel good at. Always remember, it is the people you may not like, so don't let this reflect on how the meeting will help you. I am one of the few, that as soon as I walked into my meeting for the first time, I knew, that is where I needed to be. I love all of those people that attend there. there are times, that when I know,I am not going to make my meeting on Saturday morning, I go to another one on Friday night, so I feel I didn't miss the meeting. but to be honest, I hope I don't miss my meeting, because I don't care if I ever go to that other one. I just did not feel it, wasn't comfortable there, the way I should be comfortable. but I will go to it, if needed.

All I can say after all of this rambling is this, it does not matter if it is SAA or SLAA, just go to it, and give it a chance. my recovery is, TTF, and SAA, and I will never stop either. Us addicts do not understand the power, of being with a group of people whop have the same issues as we do, until we go for the first time.

I love it when others ask about SAA meetings, because I will do what I can, to get them to go, to at least give them a chance. Damn, if I got a dollar, every time I promoted SAA, I would be a rich man by now.

Peter, give it a chance, just try it. I dont think you will be sorry that you did.

And Jan J made good points too. so take her advice also

      Hey Rock,

No experience with SLAA here, but I do know people that go to SLAA meetings. I think it all depends on the group. I would suggest giving it a try.

I go to SAA also. If you check out the SAA website, there are phone meetings that are toll free. That could be another option. Also, there are AA meetings everywhere, and that is the origin of the 12 steps, so it may be helpful to pop into an AA meeting and talk to some of the members privately.

Hope you can find something that works for you.
