      Default Regarding K9

Not sure where to post this question...

Has anyone had any troubles with K9 tonight?

When we started using the computer this evening, K9 started blocking all access to the internet, even websites that are safe. These are websites that were allowed when we first installed K9.

Somehow, K9 shut down all internet access.

We tried going to the K9 website but even that was blocked.

We uninstalled K9 and have tried to install it again but our internet explorer can't even go to their website.

Anyone having similar problems? Anyone know what to do? Anyone know of another good free filter?

I have always found K9 to be pretty much seamless and does a very good job blocking.

It sounds to me like a symptom of some type of tampering. This may not be the case for you though.

Since you were able to uninstall and reinstall it, I take it that you are able to view your settings. It could also be possible that somehow the time blockage is triggering this behavior.

Let us know if you find any progress.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tampering", however I surely didn't tamper with K9 on our computer.

My wife knows the password and I deliberately did not know what it was. I wanted it to be that way.

I have set up the 14 day trial to NetNanny while K9 isn't working.

We are experiencing the very same thing this morning. Not sure what we will be doing about it but will keep you posted.

Doesnt sound like a problem with K9 but with your internet connection. If that is down and you cannot access the web you will get an error message from the K9 website since it filters your access.

Check to see that your internet connection is working and then try again.

Not in our case Chas as Mac was on his that has k9 and I was on mine that doesn't. He had problems, I did not. Uninstalled K9 and problems are gone.

Sure it wasn't something that Mac did with his spectacular computer skills :))

Last night, I installed the 14 day free trial to NetNanny because I didn't want to have an un-filtered computer at home.

Later, we were able to access the K9 website; we uninstalled it and re-installed it. It is now back up and running.

It has given us a chance to see how NetNanny works though and it looks good.

I think we'll stick with K9 as it is free and we enjoyed the ease with which we were able to customize.

Actually, I should say "she" was able to customize. She doesn't allow me to participate in the set up of the filtering aspects of the computer.

I use Mac OSX 10.5, and K9 has always crashed my computer, regardless of whether I use Safari or Firefox. (Yes, trust me, I'm good with computers, it WAS K9, for sure).

So I'm going to go ahead and use NetNanny, because as far as I can tell, it's the most affordable but still fully functional filter/accountability software for Mac.
