Default Tomorrow it is! - 03-18-2008, 07:37 PM
Hello all,

Well .. this is my first post here .. I'm overwhelmed with this support one can find here .. I really, REALLY, needed to find this kind of support. Finding people who are facing the same "road blocks" that I face and exerting effort to fight back and overcome , while supporting each other all the way, is really encouraging and somehow it altered my paradigm way beyond I thought it would.

I'm an addict myself and I really want to quit.. and have been trying a lot,(and failing as well).

so, to keep this short .. I hereby mark my startpoint .. Tomorrow -Wednesday, March 19th - will be my "quitting day"..

I've an idea too but needed to take your opinions first,, how about, we make a thread with a list of the members who quit with a number beside each member indcating how far he/she has gone without failure ? I think it would be kind of a new way of support and encouragement

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my post ,

castaway..

Hi Castaway, I am glad you've joined us, your positive enthusiasm comes across loud and clear, I hope you succeed in your quitting. I like the idea of a marker showing how much we have progressed, but my concern is how to not make it discouraging to those who have just started or have slipped up.

good point, umm.. for it to be useful for those who slipped up .. the one who slips up won't get his 'counter' reset .. another counter will be written next to it indicating a 'breakpoint' .. and for each breakpoint, one should post the reasons behind his failure and suggestions to avoid it later.. other member could suggest solutions too..

example to what i have on mind for a sample user (nickname) :
-------------------------
nickname : 50 !! 49.. |
-------------------------

the "!!" indicate that he slipped and started a new count .. the ".." indicates that the current count is on with no slips..

I don't know if it's good enough this way .. but i would appreciate it if others participate and propose different ideas ..

IMHO, if you start a counter and are already talking about slip ups, and ways to document this, that person is not ready to go 'cold turkey'

You need to start this journey with the state of mind that its over, and your new life begins... end of!

Positive attitude makes the world of difference, and can be applied to virtually everything.

A sports person has a game plan, a strategy to counter all possibilities, but there goal is to WIN, not to come second, or third. To WIN.

A soldier goes into battle, with all his tactics, armour and strategies to not get hit, He goes to battle to SURVIVE. Not with thoughts of getting shot, or injured, to SURVIVE.

A drug addict who has finally had enough, should not keep a small stash in the draw "just incase" They say. ITS OVER, and thats it.

After I finally acknowledged and came to terms with what P was doing to me and my family, I said thats it, its over, the end, and everyday, I keep educating myself via this forum, and learning how to be strong, how to counter temptation, and focus on my new life. I choose not to look back!

I choose not to slip up, to fall, to break or crack. That strength has come from within myself, being fed up of this P crap, and support from all on this site and mostly my wife.

You will succeed if you want to. Just WANT it. There is no doubt that you CAN do it; the only thing you need to do is absolutely wanting to quit.

If you're not sure about wanting to quit, don't take a resolution. I've hurt my self-esteem for too long with half-hearted resolutions. It's for real or it's nothing.

Be courageous!
