Default I need help - 03-01-2008, 06:04 AM
Yesterday, I watched pornorgraphic materials for more than 8 hours. And today, I'm tempted to watch it again. That is why I'm here in this forum right now, to prevent myself from committing that sin. I've been searching the internet for ways that I can prevent this. Here is a link which I came across.

http://muslimmatters.org/2007/08/19/...-stories-tips/

My muslim brother also failed to stop himself from committing that sin. I wonder if there are ways to prevent it. Maybe, someone can invent an electronic device, which can be attached to the body. The device would automatically send an electronic shock, and reset the guy's memory and heart beat rate whenever the desire is there. That would certainly stop it. That would stop any kind of addiction. The guy won't be able to remove the device, because it would be surgically implanted in his body, in a place which he doesn't even know.

Do you know how I arrived at it? We do what we do because we don't realize the consequences of our actions to the extent we should know. A true muslim would be fearful to Allah, because what lies ahead of him is hell, in his afterlife, if he is sinful. The Quran warns about hell, and how dreadful the torture would be there. The Quran tells about what is available as a drink in hell. It is a drink which is so hot that it would burn and kill. But you won't die there. The quran tells about the fire of hell. It says that the fire burns so loudly that you won't hear any other sound. Believe me. I have read. I have read about the horror and terror which lies ahead. But, when the desire is there, as I have right now at this moment, I sometimes forget those things.

So, theoretically, if someone invents a device, which would remind us about the consequences, it would certainly deviate humanity towards the good. If I have the resources, I would build the device and test it myself.

What do you think about that?

After writing my last post, my heart beat rate is normal, tension level also returned to normal. I think you guys also should do the same. That electronic device idea is also a good idea. I think creative people out there should think about it.

Blueray, it is better to find a way of helping yourself to do this, than to be forced to do so through fear - be it electric shocks or hellfire! Personally I cannot believe in hellfire, God, or Allah is a just, mericful and loving god right? then what kind of justice would it be to torment someone infinitely for a finite crime? Not to mention that its not a very nice thing to do to somebody no matter what they have done. the word hell in the english language simply means the ground, Jesus is reported as having gone to hell and he wasnt a bad man was he?

Fear is a very negative emotion, when the bible or Quran speaks of the 'fear of God' it is not meaning we should be terrified of him, but to be afraid of dissapointing him, like a child who loves his dad doesnt want to let him down. Conquer these negative feelings you have and you will have won half the battle.

Keep trying my friend, it is possible.

Wise words Dominus. i agree on that issue with god cause if he is merciful and loving then i dont think there would be a infinite hell for any1 no matter what terrible things they have done.
When it comes to using electronic devices i think thats unnessary way of beating an addiction cause ultimatly its about changing what your thinking about and your daily habits that are gonna really help you overcome it.
Good luck Blueray.

Dan

Hi blueray,

Thanks for posting on my "journal" thread. I'm not sure I like your suggestion about implanting an electronic device in our bodies that would zap us and prevent us from sinning when temptation comes. (By the way, this same basic idea has been explored fairly vividly in A Clockwork Orange, which in my heterodox opinion is just an okay movie, but a cracking good novel.) The problem with the electronic device is that it does not make us into truly virtuous people; it merely prevents us from doing things that, were it not there, we might indeed do. If our reason for not doing bad things is merely that we are afraid of certain consequences that we won't like, like getting zapped or going to hell, then we have not attained real virtue. Because really we should try to be people who do not want to do bad things at all, people who really want to do what is worth doing because we understand why it is worth doing. Our reason for doing what is right should be that it is right. This is true because there *are* reasons why certain things are right, and we should learn what these reasons are and do what's right because of our appreciation of them.

Best,
Zibble

BlueRay,

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your problem and the mental turmoil you are experiencing. I hope your faith will help you overcome your addiction. Different things work for different people, and some on this forum derive strength and motivation from their faith. If you find that strength and motivation in Islam, that is a great blessing for you.

But however much inspiration and motivation you get from your faith, it is important that you also believe in your own power to change the way you lead your life. Your faith may inspire you to do the right thing, but you yourself will have to make the changes that are necessary in your life. You need to be in control of your actions. That is why I agree with others on this thread that the device you are proposing is not the best solution to our addiction.

To others who have posted on this thread, I would like to appeal not to make this into a discussion about the merits of various religions, nor on our interpretation of particular religious teachings. What brings us together is our addiction - which clearly affects people of all colours and religions. Our job is to support each other as we struggle with our addition, and we should focus on what makes us alike, not on what divides us.

I am trying to be diplomatic here - some posts on this thread are amongst the least helpful I've seen on the site.

Good luck to you BlueRay!

Clog.

Hi Blueray, and apologies for the delayed welcome. You will find that you will be able to relate to many members here, as the majority of have found, or been pointed to this site, after realising the damage P has caused in their lives, and the hurt towards partner.

The main reason ThroughtheFlame.org has been so successful in the recent months, is due to the openness of sharing and good advice from all members.

This website also stands out from the rest as there is no specific link to religion. Whilst all members here will naturally respect all faiths and beliefs, It is the website owners intentions to keep referrals to specifics of religion minimal.

I myself am a muslim, but have not needed to announce this fact till now. As I think all religions, atheists and agnostics alike, will all share common human morales from what is right and wrong.

Your contribution to this site is greatly appreciated and I sincerely hope you continue to share with all members your journey, and advise other new joiners alike. However, future postings which contain significant portions of religious content, will be removed, to maintain the site being non religion specific.

I sincerely wish you the best in overcoming the PA, and should you have any specific concerns on this post, or any other matter, please do not hesitate to Private Message me.

FoolishMind

I can go along with that, I certainly hope I didnt cause any offense with what I said, and if I did I apologise! That said, taking the definition of religion as 'a specific system of belief' this entire forum is in a sense religious, and certainly not everyone shares our views. I don't think that its possible to entirely paint beliefs out of the equation with everyone if you are looking for a truly wholistic approach, but I do agree it should be kept minimal and not allowed to get off track. I think whats important is to always aim to be upbuilding to one another.

Hi everyone,

I want to apologize for my post too. I really really don't want to pick any fights about religious issues, and I certainly respect the power of our various religions to help us become better people. I wouldn't have said so much about it if I hadn't felt that blueray was inviting us to share our thoughts about his electronic device idea (which seemed to him to be closely connected to certain religious ideas), but I know I shouldn't have.

Best,
Zibble

Hi everyone,

I just edited my earlier post to remove all the potentially off-putting religious commentary. I apologize again. I really didn't mean to say anything that would be provocative or that would make people feel unwelcome.

Best,
Zibble
