Today, I came across a very useful video for fighting our addiction. It is the science behind our addiction. The guy in the video explains it very clearly. Here are the videos:

Remember me talking about inventing a device which would inflict pain whenever a trigger occurred? Remember me talking about fasting to ovecome this addiction? These two videos made sense of all that. Actually we are not in control of ourselves. It is because our brains are of two parts - the limbic system of the brain which contains our instincts, and the frontal cortex which contains our abilities to reason. The limbic system is similar to the brain of animals. Animals always act on instinct without reasoning, because of their inability to reason. They don't have a frontal cortex.
The limbic system has the capability of hijacking the frontal cortex. To overcome the addiction we have to learn to use the frontal cortex and fight the limbic system's efforts to hijack it. This can't be done with our own effort. I watched this video after another relapse, which was triggered by some depressing and stressful activities in my environment. The video explained it. I have seen this link before, I noticed that I relapse only after something depressing or something stressful. Actually, I'm married now, and I have to live away from my wife becase we have no place to live together. My job is in another city, and my wife lives somewhere 8 hours away from me.
My wife knows about my addiction, and she made me promise that I'll not do that again. According to the video, this doesn't work for addicts like us. The only way to fight this is to be aware that the libmic system of our brain is making us do it, to overcome stress or depression, and there is nothing we can do about it, and this doesn't make us bad people either. That is what I learned from the video.
You see, fasting is what my religion suggests for fighting this addiction. I have never tried it. Fasting involves staying without food and from dusk to dawn. You can fast every 2 days. Our prophet Muhammadh used to fast. Thinking from a scientific point of view, what would fasting do? In my opinion, it would give the libmic system of the brain something else to crave. Something which is less harmful than ry. Then there is this special prayer which we can stay awake at night and perform. This is a tool to reduce stress.
I tried the prayer tonight, and instantly the craving disappeared, because the stress and depression disappeared. After that I went to sleep. But suddenly something woke me up and I just couldn't control myself. The frontal cortex of my brain kept telling me that I made a promise to my wife, and I made a promise to god, and doing the thing would have consequenses. But I couldn't help it. I relapsed. It has been a month since my last relapse.
I have been craving for this thing for two days now, ever since I saw my cousin and his wife going out together. I was able to suppress it by performing the night prayer, but that didn't last. I think that I'm going to try fasting. May god forgive me and bless me with that effort. Tomorrow I'll fast.
The video explains about triggers. You see, when I saw my cousin going out with his wife, and they get to live together, it broke my heart day before yesterday. These are the triggers in my environment. Earlier there were things like, I didn't have anything to do, and other people get to go on scholarships, and other people get to have friends, and people don't like me, and other people got to get married and stuff - earthly things which were of value to me, and things which I wanted but didn't have. They are the triggers. You'll find similar things in your environments as well no doubt.
