Default Quitting - 12-31-2007, 07:04 AM
Hi, I'm new here and this seems like a good place for support. I'm in my early twenties and have been looking at P for over a decade now. I recently quit for 3 weeks ,but then finals came up. So I just gave up to get rid of some stress. Now I'm back to being an addict. I just want to get it out of my life.
It's comforting to know that there are people out there who help with this. Thanks for reading.
God Bless.

Hey Rob 85, welcome!...I remember doing the same thing when I was in college. I could make it for a little while without looking at porn, but not more than a week or two. And I would always use it as a means of escape from frustration, stress, or boredom. And until recently, I haven't changed much.

I guess I've tried to quit porn for a while now but it's not till I found this site that I have been really serious about it. I've tried to educate myself as much as possible and when I get tempted I come here and read people's stories and try to help them if I can. It may sound bad, but visiting this site and reading about the pain and frustration porn causes other people encourages me when I'm tempted to look at it, and reminds me that it's not the solution to whatever I'm going through.

I hope you won't be too hard on yourself, but turn your frustration into a recovery plan that will work for you. Take time to read the "advice for newbies" thread http://throughtheflame.org/forum/showthread.php?t=114

After that, try to make a personalized plan for how you are going to change your life in such a way that you can overcome this thing. You may have to make some sacrifices if you really want to get rid of the problem, but let me tell you first hand, it's worth it!

Good luck and please let us know how it goes!

Hello, the worst part about being addicted for me sometimes, that even when times are good and there is relatively no stress, that I will go back P. It is a very dabilatating feeling. But i still keep at it, there is too much at risk and there has been so much time that I have wasted b/c of this addication. I want to accomplish and acheive so much more in my life that keeping P around will not allow me to get there.

The only times that I feel like i am making real progress are the little changes that I make in my life (no rated R movies, no internet in the home, becoming more active) This is really difficult b/c of the nature of the addiction keeping you isolated from other people, but with support from others close to you and, sometimes those people who do not know about the issue, can provide great comfort when you are in need. This is a great time in your life to try and find new hobbies.

Day 2

Do Not Give Up!

God Bless

I like being reminded of that. Thank you

What I like about visiting this forum is reading posts like yours, Brand. It's a great reminder for me to hear this from others. It really helps to reinforce what I know is true. In my moments of weakness, I would try to convince myself that what I know is not true, or that perhaps, I could just put the truth on hold for a moment while I go and satisfy some craving, and then resume life, but it never works out when I do that.

Reading these posts definitely makes me stronger and more resolute. I think part of the problem lies in the fact that our culture promotes an unhealthy lifestyle and habits, and even little things encourage unhealthy behaviors, a magazine, a tv commercial, or a billboard...the triggers are literally everywhere.

It sounds like you're on the right path, keep up the great work Brand
