Default The Dark Knight Cometh - 07-15-2008, 12:14 AM
Anybody else as (admittedly nerdly and) excited to see The Dark Knight next week as I am? I've been waiting for it to open FOREVER! In fact, my friends and I just rewatched Batman Returns the other day in anxious anticipation. I want to go to the midnight show on Thursday, but some of my friends have to work the next morning (the horror!). So, I'm forced (out of loyalty to them) to wait to see it on Friday.

I'm really interested to see Heath Ledger's take on the Joker. I expect it to be a rather heavy flick. Oh I almost have goosebumps with anticipation!

Looking forward to this one for months now! I can't wait to see it...it will be sad to watch Heath Ledger's last performance.

Unhappy The Dark Knight Disappointeth - 07-22-2008, 01:18 AM
Anyone else disappointed by this movie? Ledger's performace was fanastic, as were Morgan Freeman's and Micheal Cain's.

The rest of the flick felt wanting. Here's why:
  1. The pace seemed off - too slow.
  2. I thought Two-Face should have been a cliff hanger and saved for the villain of the next flick.
  3. Batman's decision to accept responsibility for Two-Face's crimes is COMPLETELY out of character with who Batman is supposed to be.
  4. More backstory for the Joker (though they may have intended to do that in the next flick).

What I liked:
  1. Ledger's Joker was amazing.
  2. Killed off Rachel. That was unexpected and though sad, kudos to them for having the guts to do it.

I actually liked it.

I did find myself looking at my watch towards the end though, and I really didn't care for the role of two face. Isn't he supposed to be the next step in the series? So is he really dead? What's to stop the joker from escaping again? Of course, who else could really play that role now?!

I did like the role of the joker, and it was kind of odd to see batman almost take a back seat. His performance, pretty amazing. I loved his swagger and facial / mouth movements, what a role. Disturbing? Kind of, for me. Was almost scary to see how calous and ruthless he is, and just does things without thinking and for no real reasons. Even scarier that the world is actually like that, or at least some people. Even with as disturbing as he could be, it was also kind of funny. "I want to drive", or him walking around as the nurse. The carelessness was almost humorous too.

Ya, killing off Rachel, didn't see that coming.

Overall, I liked it.

Ledger stole the movie with his performance. The pencil disappearing act was harsh but VERY original!

I totally forgot about that...really grossed me out. But you're right - very original.

I may have to see this again after some time passes. Perhaps I'll have a deeper appreciation for it a second time around. I find that I am harsher on movies that have high expectations...

And all the excitement has been squashed by the charges being brought against the star!

Last, but by no means least, courage - moral courage, the courage of one's convictions, the courage to see things through. The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle - the roar of the crowd on one side and the voice of your conscience on the other.
