      Default Songs that help me...

The Eagles - Desperado (though I like the Johnny Cash version better)

Desperado, why dont you come to your senses?
You been out ridin fences for so long now
      Oh, youre a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin you
      Can hurt you somehow

Don you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
Shell beat you if shes able
You know the queen of heats is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you cant get

Desperado, oh, you aint gettin no youger
Your pain and your hunger, theyre drivin you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, thats just some people talkin
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Dont your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky wont snow and the sun wont shine
Its hard to tell the night time from the day
Youre loosin all your highs and lows
Aint it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why dont you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin, but theres a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before its too late

      ================
These things that are pleasin you
      Can hurt you somehow
      Porn!

It may be rainin, but theres a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before its too late
      My despair!

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you cant get
Giving up the real thing for Porn! No more!

Nine inch nails - (again I like johnny cash better)

      "Hurt"

      I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
      I focus on the pain
      The only thing that's real
      The needle tears a hole
      The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
      But I remember everything

      [Chorus:]
      What have I become
      My sweetest friend
      Everyone I know goes away
      In the end
And you could have it all
      My empire of dirt
      I will let you down
      I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
      Upon my liar's chair
      Full of broken thoughts
      I cannot repair
      Beneath the stains of time
      The feelings disappear
      You are someone else
      I am still right here

      [Chorus:]
      What have I become
      My sweetest friend
      Everyone I know goes away
      In the end
And you could have it all
      My empire of dirt
      I will let you down
      I will make you hurt

      If I could start again
      A million miles away
      I would keep myself
      I would find a way

Default Good Enough - Darren Hayes

      Good Enough
      Darren Hayes
      If I woke up late
      Couldn’t get out of bed
If I bought you a cafe latte instead
If I lied when I said
32 inches was the size of my waist
      And can I admit
      Every once in a while
Even though I dig alternative style
      Occasionally
I can be caught dancin’ to Brittany
      And can I confess
That art house doesn’t turn me on
But I like every single thing that Speilberg’s done

      Could I be good enough
      Could I be good enough
      If the going got worse
      And the worse got rough
      The days became endless
      And harder than tough
      I’d be good enough
      Better than best
Would be simply to be good enough
      If everything I give
      Doesn’t seem like a lot
If it’s all that I got
Baby tell that could be good enough

      I could be good enough
      I could be good enough
      If the going got worse
      And the worse got rough
      The days became endless
      And harder than tough
      I’d be good enough
      Better than best
Would be simply to be good enough
      If everything I give
      Doesn’t seem like a lot
If it’s all that I got
Baby tell me that could be good enough

Coz I don’t know which way this road is gonna turn
But I know it’s gonna be fine
But there are some days no matter how much I’ve learned
      That the road gets tough
And I don’t feel good enough
But if you’re giving me some of that loving
      Could you pass some over
Let me cry on your shoulder and tell me baby
      I could be good enough

There's a few songs that might apply here that mean a lot to me, but, I can't explain how they would. It'd be difficult to put it into context.

Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna

"Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?
We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this room the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off
Just Louise and her lover so entwined
And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind

In the empty lot where the ladies play blindman's bluff with the key chain
And the all-night girls they whisper of escapades out on the "D" train
We can hear the night watchman click his flashlight
Ask himself if it's him or them that's really insane
Louise, she's all right, she's just near
She's delicate and seems like the mirror
But she just makes it all too concise and too clear
      That Johanna's not here
The ghost of 'lectricity howls in the bones of her face
Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place

Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously
He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously
And when bringing her name up
He speaks of a farewell kiss to me
He's sure got a lotta gall to be so useless and all
Muttering small talk at the wall while I'm in the hall
      How can I explain?
Oh, it's so hard to get on
And these visions of Johanna, they kept me up past the dawn

Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles
      See the primitive wallflower freeze
When the jelly-faced women all sneeze
Hear the one with the mustache say, "Jeeze
      I can't find my knees"
Oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule
But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel

The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him
Sayin', "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"
      But like Louise always says
"Ya can't look at much, can ya man?"
As she, herself, prepares for him
And Madonna, she still has not showed
We see this empty cage now corrode
Where her cape of the stage once had flowed
The fiddler, he now steps to the road
He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed
On the back of the fish truck that loads
      While my conscience explodes
The harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rain
And these visions of Johanna are now all that remain"

I can't explain how or why this song helps me but it does...I just have to listen to it once through and I can forget my addiction for that time. In fact that works for me with a lot of Dylan's stuff but most strongly with this song.
The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle: the roar of the crowd on the one side, and the voice of your conscience on the other. - Douglas MacArthur

"'Thou mayest rule over sin,' Lee. That's it. I do not believe all men are destroyed. I can name you a dozen who were not, and they are the ones the world lives by. It is true of battles - only the winners are remembered. Surely most men are destroyed, but there are others who like pillars of fire guide frightened men through the darkness. 'Thou mayest!' What glory! It is true that we are weak and sick and quarrelsome, but if that is all we ever were we would, millenniums ago, have disappeared from the face of the earth. A few remnants of fossilised jawbone, some broken teeth in a strata of limestone, would be the only mark man would have left of his existance in the world. But the choice, Lee, the choice of winning!" - East of Eden by John Steinbeck

Tell me if this song does not make you smile....

If you're happy and you know it,

      Clap your hands
      (Clap hands twice)
If you're happy and you know it,
      Clap your hands
      (Clap hands twice)
If you're happy and you know it,
Then your face will surely show it
If you're happy and you know it,
      Clap your hands.

Found one that pretty closely explains my depression. Just swap out the drugs with P or self mutilation. It helps, because there are times I wish I could say this, but the words fail me. Local band, too.

      It Don't Matter - Rehab

Sittin in traffic, another day of feeling nothing
Trying to find something, I guess it's back to huffin'
Paint and model glue, oh how I die when I look
At you smilin' lovin' life, and all I know is blue
Rainy days and cold stares, broken love affairs
Everything's beautiful; as long as I ain't there
I guess I wasn't meant to crack a smile. Who cares,
I think I'll go to sleep for a while now

I'm barely livin' in my skin, depression's my only friend
And I don't know where I am heading, tryin' to forget where I've been
And I'm so sick of lying, God please show me that silver lining
Cuz I've heard tale, and I'm not well, l my heads full of hell and
      This world's a jail, but

And it don't matter, and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
      Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear
And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
      Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear

And as the pain begins to displace, had it to ear level
With this place, you see it on my face a state of suspended grace
Gradually I erase, and find comfort in the sickest womb
I might be present, but not in the room
To whom it may consume, melting ensembles bleeding chellos running through Bordellos drama
Like Othello hidin' out from Poncharello
      Dead off in the Median
Fallin apart like usual, handin' out flyers to my funeral

So they say that life's a play and that all the world's a stage
Then for another part I pray; The show ends the same way everyday
And my heart carries the pain, of a brain I can't explain
      Am I insane?
      Am I insane?

And it don't matter, and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
      Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear
And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
      Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear

      And everything good is gone
      And everything good is gone
      And everything good is gone
      And everything bad is here
      And everything bad is here
      And everything bad is here
It doesn't really matter now does it

And it don't matter, and I don't care.
I let my pain into the air
      Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear
And it don't matter and I don't care
I let my pain into the air
      Cuz everything good's over there
And everything here's hard to bear

      Gates of Delirium/Soon by Yes

"Stand and fight we do consider
Reminded of an inner pact between us
      Thats seen as we go
      And ride there
      In motion
To fields in debts of honour defending

      Stand the marchers soaring talons
Peaceful lives will not deliver freedom
      Fighting we know,
      Destroy oppression
      The point to reaction
As leaders look to you attacking

Choose and renounce throwing chains to the floor
Kill or be killing faster sins correct the flow
      Casting giant shadows off vast
      Penetrating force
To alter via the war that seen
As frictions spans the spirits wrath ascending to redeem

Wars that shout in screams of anguish
Power spent passion bespoils our soul receiver
      Surely we know.
In glory we rise to offer,
Create our freedom, a word, we utter a word.

Words cause our banner, victorious our day
Will silence be promised as violence display
The curse increased we fight the powr and live by it by day
Our gods awake in thunderous roars and guide
The leaders hands in paths of glory to the cause

      Listen should we fight forever
      Knowing as we do know
      Fear destroys?
Listen should we leave our children?
Listen our lives stare in silence
      Help us now

Listen your friends have been broken
They tell us of your poison
      Now we know
Kill them give them as they give us
Slay them burn their childrens laughter
      On to hell

      The fist will run
      Grasp metal to gun
The spirit sings in crashing tones we gain the battle drum
Our cries will shrill the air will moan and crash into the dawn
The pen wont stay the demons wings, the hour approaches
      Pounding out the devils sermon

      Soon oh soon the light
Pass within and soothe this endless night
      And wait here for you
      Our reason to be here

      Soon oh soon the time
All we move to gain will reach and calm
      Our heart is open
      Our reason to be here

      Long ago, set into rhyme

      Soon oh soon the light
Ours to shape for all time, ours the right
      The sun will lead us
      Our reason to be here

      Soon oh soon the light
Ours to shape for all time, ours the right
      The sun will lead us
      Our reason to be here"

Listened to this while reading Fm's journal..wow it just made so much sense! It was amazingly beautiful...Well just thought I'd share that one.

This song's always made me happy. It's also our song, "our" being Rouge and myself.

      Dig - Incubus

      We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify. Look me in the eye,
      and ask for forgiveness.
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again.
      Yes, you are my friend.
We all have something that digs at us,
at least we dig each other.

So when weakness turns my ego up
I know you'll count on the me from yesterday.

      If I turn into another
dig me up from under what is covering
      the better part of me.
      Sing this song
remind me that we'll always have each other
      when everything else is gone.

      We all have a sickness
      that cleverly attaches and multiplies
      No matter how we try.
We all have someone that digs at us,
at least we dig each other.

So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine.
      If I turn into another,
dig me up from under what is covering
      The better part of me.
      Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
      when everything else is gone.
Oh, each other when everything else is gone.
