Thrice is my favorite band. This one's called "For Miles"

I know one day, all our scars will disappear, like the stars at dawn
and all of our pain will fade away when morning comes
and on that day, when we look backwards we will see, that everything is changed
and all of our trials will be as milestones on the way

and as long as we live, every scar is a bridge to someone's broken heart
and there's no greater love than that one shed his blood for his friends

on that day, all of the scales will swing to set all the wrongs to right
all of our tears, and all of our fears will take to flight
but until then all of our scars will still remain, but we've learned that if we'll
open the wounds and share them then soon they start to heal

as long as we live, every scar is a bridge to someone's broken heart
and there's no greater love, than that one shed his blood for his friends

we must see that every scar is a bridge, and as long as we live
we must open up these wounds
when some one stands in your shoes and will shed his own blood
there's no greater love. we must open up our wounds

I'm not sure why but the mention of scars in the the previous song reminded me strongly of this song. The Suicide Machines were an anarchic Punk band which verged on Communism in their song writing. Its strange that with all the anti-capitalist stuff they usually sang they could have something like this as well...

Bottomed Out by The Suicide Machines

"How we love, we love to hurt ourselves.
How we live, we live to hurt each other.
And how it feels when it's you who hates yourself.
It's hard to care when it seems no one else does.
And I know how it feels when all the pressure is too real,
With all these bad thoughts in my head,
I try, but I can't quite get rid of them.

I've hit the bottom,
I'm at the bottom again.
Can someone lend a helping hand?
I've hit the bottom,
I'm at the bottom again.

They're just scars, and everyone has got them, yeah
just scars, we all try to hide them so that no one else can see.
Your scars are beautiful to me.
I know that love can break your back,
Especially when your soul is black.
Just know that you destroy me,
I wonder are you finally free?
Dirty dishes in the sink,
He sang, he sang while his world, it sank.

He's at the bottom,
He's hit the bottom again.
There was no one there to lend a hand.
He's at the bottom,
He's hit the bottom again,
At depression's bitter end.

It's been a long hard day,
You free me from my pain,
But I hold onto hope
It's all I've ever known,
You free me from my pain.

Free me."

Well the more I listen to it/read it through the more I like it.

"Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb." - Sir Winston Churchill

Cool Heart of Fire - Innerpartysystem - 05-28-2008, 09:36 AM
You remember me from a better time
Infatuation with each other could summarize
All this is tied to the love
The love you had assumed would never die
I can't remember what i had said
Something remeniscent of a relationship
It was easier to lack the truth
Then tell you how i feel
But i will surround your heart with lies until the end

I remember you from a better time
Conversation saturated with telling lies
All this comes back to the love
The love i spoke with honest and pure eyes
Now i remember what i had done
Something meaningful to get you and fall in love
It was easier to tell you
Everything you want to hear

But i will surround your heart with lies
And it's a heavy burden on me baby
A heavy burden i have never felt before

Sit back, relax, recover
A fine time for me to mention you
Get down, regret and wonder
Who really ever tells the truth
Sit back, relax, recover
A fine time for me forgetting you
Get down, regret and wonder
Who really ever tells the truth

I will surround your heart with lies
And it's a heavy burden on me baby
A heavy burden i have never felt before

Love is the rhythm of two hearts beating
Poundin' out a message steady and true
Talk to me baby tell me what you're feelin'
I know what love is
What's it to you

Default A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall by Bob Dylan - 05-31-2008, 12:28 PM
"Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall."

Such a powerful amazing song. Great fun to sing too!

You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb." - Sir Winston Churchill

Default 3 doors down - not my time - 06-08-2008, 07:19 AM
Looking back of the beginning of this
And how life was
Just you and me loving all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
But now the curent slowly pulling me down
It's getting harder too breath
It won't be to long and I will be the one under
Can you save me from this?

Cause it's not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me it's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ooohh but I won't go

I look ahead too all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take them away
Oh but I'm taking them back
Cause all of this time I' we been just too blind to understand
What you matter to me
My friends is laughing and it's not what we have
It's what we believe in

Cause it's not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me but it's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But it's not my time I'm not going
There's a will in me and now I know that
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ooohh but I won't go
I won't go

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

But it's not my time I'm not going
There's a fear in me it's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But it's not my time I'm not going
There's a will in me and now it's gonna show
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ooohh

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

But I won't go
No I won't go down
Yeah

Love is the rhythm of two hearts beating
Poundin' out a message steady and true
Talk to me baby tell me what you're feelin'
I know what love is
What's it to you

The whole of "The Division Bell" (album) by Pink Floyd is brilliant!

This is from "Lost for Words"

"I was spending my time in the doldrums
I was caught in a cauldron of hate
I felt persecuted and paralysed
I thought that everything else would just wait

While you are wasting your time on your enemies
Engulfed in a fever of spite
Beyond your tunnel vision reality fades
Like shadows into the night

To martyr yourself to caution
Is not going to help at all
because there'll be no safety in numbers
When the right one walks out of the door

Can you see your days blighted by darkness?
Is it true you beat your fists on the floor?
Stuck in a world of isolation
While the ivy grows over the door"

"Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb." - Sir Winston Churchill

This song has been an inspiration for me dealing with addiction.....

Metallica - Frantic

If I could have my wasted days back,
Would I use them to get back on track?
Stop to warm at karmas burning,
Or Look ahead, but keep on turning.

Do I have the strength
To know how I'll go?
Can I find it inside to deal with what I shouldn't know?

Could I have my wasted days back?
Would I use them to get back on track.

You live it or you lie it!
You live it or you lie it!

My lifestyle determines my deathstyle!
My lifestyle determines my deathstyle!

Keep searching
Keep on searching
This search goes on
This search goes on
on and on.

I've worn out always being afraid
An endless stream of fear that i've made
Treading water full of worry
This frantic tick tick talk of hurry

Oh My lifestyle (Birth is Pain) determines my deathstyle!
a rising tide (Life is Pain) that pushes to the other side!

Red face just heard this one felt inspired by it or something lots of "I can's" - 06-17-2008, 10:43 AM
Flobots:Handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

Look at me, look at me
hands in the air like it's good to be
ALIVE
and I'm a famous rapper
even when the paths're all crookedy
I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I'm Proud to be an American"
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want cuz, look:

I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome

And I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone

Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be
ALIVE
In such a small world
I'm all curled up with a book to read
I can make money open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine sixty four
Miles to a gallon of gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computers survive aquatic conditions
I know how to run a business
I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance
Cuz I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone
And I can split the atoms of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule

Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be
Alive and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let'em all die in exasperation
Have'em all healed of their lacerations
Have'em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like'em and
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command
Because I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite
And I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope
And I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars

This one means a lot, hard to put into words why though.
It's also our song, Rouge and I.

Incubus - Dig

We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify. Look me in the eye,
And ask for forgiveness.
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again.
Yes, you are my friend.
We all have something that digs at us,
At least we dig each other.

So when weakness turns my ego up
I know you'll count on me from yesterday.

If I turn into another,
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.

We all have a sickness
That cleverly attaches and multiplies
No matter how we try.
We all have someone that digs at us,
At least we dig each other.

So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine.
If I turn into another,
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.
Oh, each other when everything else is gone.

ooooh....
(15x)

If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.

Oh, each other when everything else is gone. (x2)

Default Other side of the world - KT Tunstall - 06-22-2008, 09:46 AM
I'm so glad you started this thread knowthetruth - while I was away I was thinking of asking the question "which songs help?", and I came back to find it already here!

Pretty much all of KT Tunstall's album Eye to the Telescope has been good for me, but in particular a couple of songs...

Other Side of the World

Over the sea and far away
She's waiting like an iceberg
Waiting to change
But she's cold inside
She wants to be like the water

All the muscles tighten in her face
Buries her soul in one embrace
They're one and the same
Just like water

And the fire fades away
Most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's too hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're on the other side of the world to me

On comes the panic light
Holding on with fingers and feelings alike
But the time has come
To move along

And the fire fades away
Most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's too hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're on the other side of the world

Can you help me
Can you let me go
And can you still love me
When you can't see me anymore

And the fire fades away
Most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's too hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're on the other side of the world
On the other side of the world
You're on the other side of the world to me

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Last, but by no means least, courage - moral courage, the courage of one's convictions, the courage to see things through. The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle - the roar of the crowd on one side and the voice of your conscience on the other.
~ Douglas Macarthur
