Default Music: What do you listen to?

I've been mulling this idea for a while now: how about a thread where we can list our favorite bands and artists...

It's a little like letting the personality cat out of the bag since you can gain some understanding about a person based on what they listen to.

But you Good People already know far more about me than most of my own family(!), so I'm comfortable with the idea to say the least.

I will also put my list in three stages since I've gone through several genres over the years...

Favorite Bands/Music during teenage years and earlier:

      · Fleetwood Mac (debut, Rumours, Tusk -all LPs!)
      · The Eagles (older brother's LP collection)
      · Neil Young
      · The Outlaws (Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson -Dad's album ; 1970s "outlaw" Country, as in outside of Nashville's formulaic country of the era)
      · AC|DC (Back in Black -1st album after Bon Scott's death)
      · Van Halen (1984 especially, but also thier self-titled debut)
      · Def Leppard (remember Pyromania!? 1981 smash hit album)
      · Motley Crue (ugh, Shout At the Devil -fortunately moved past this stage!)
      · Scorpions (Blackout especially)
      · ZZ Top
      · U2
      · Heart
      · Eric Clapton
      · The Eagles
      · Dire Straits
      · Jimi Hendrix
      · Jim Morrison and The Doors
      · Lynyrd Skynyrd
      · various New Wave, same time MTV debuts (1981)
      · Pat Benatar (several smash-hit singles)
      · The GoGos
      · various "Hair Metal" bands (Guns N' Roses, Ratt, Dokken, Great White, Quiet Riot, Slaughter, Poison, Cinderella, Extreme, etc. blah)
      · some rap (friends into it): LL Cool J, Run DMC, Beastie Boys
      · sick of Hair Metal, commercial sell-outs, too formulaic, and what's the deal with this hair/make-up thing? Game over
      · REM

      Pre-, Syn-, and Post-Grunge Era:

      · Stevie Ray Vaughn -all of his albums, wow
      · introduced to Metallica via Master of Puppets, 1991, wow
      · told about Nirvana's Nevermind album in early 1992, go get it and really dig the Grunge sound
      · Nirvana: Nevermind & In Utero albums
      · Pearl Jam: Ten, debut smash
      · Mother Love Bone (Apple –hear the transition from Hair Metal to Grunge)
      · various old-time blues (BB King, Sonny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters)
      · Soundgarden: Louder Than Love, Ultramega, Badmotorfinger (the first one I heard), Superunknown, Down on the Upside
      · Alice in Chains: all of them
      · Neil Young
      · Mad Season -supergroup of AiC members plus Pearl Jam
      · attended Lollapallooza 1992, 1993, 1994 (yes, mosh pits galore)
      · Tool
      · Sonic Youth (Dirt especially, but also Goo, Daydream Nation)
      · Smashing Pumpkins
      · Helmet
      · TAD
      · Rage Against the Machine
      · Nine Inch Nails
      · Melvins
      · Drama Rama

      What-I’m-Listening-to-Now Era:

      · Johnny Cash
      · Red Hot Chili Peppers (By the Way album)
      · some Swerve Driver
      · late 90s electronica: Chemical Brothers (Exit Planet Dust) & The Crystal Method (Vegas)
      · Moby’s Play album
      · Son House
      · The Killers
      · Kyuss (HUGE); still can’t hear enough of this now-defunct band
      · Stanley Brothers bluegrass (think killer banjos)
      · Neil Young –now have about 2/3 of everything he’s done musically
      · Them Twisted Vultures (one-off by supergroup: Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, John Paul Jones)
      · The Sword (from Austin? one song –Maiden, Mother, and Crone)
      · Blood Horse (one song –Son of Man)
      · Chris Tomlin (Arriving)
      · The David Crowder Band –awesome Christian worship

The world is in a constant conspiracy against the brave. It's the age-old struggle: the roar of the crowd on the one side, and the voice of your conscience on the other. - Douglas MacArthur

"'Thou mayest rule over sin,' Lee. That's it. I do not believe all men are destroyed. I can name you a dozen who were not, and they are the ones the world lives by. It is true of battles - only the winners are remembered. Surely most men are destroyed, but there are others who like pillars of fire guide frightened men through the darkness. 'Thou mayest!' What glory! It is true that we are weak and sick and quarrelsome, but if that is all we ever were we would, millenniums ago, have disappeared from the face of the earth. A few remnants of fossilised jawbone, some broken teeth in a strata of limestone, would be the only mark man would have left of his existance in the world. But the choice, Lee, the choice of winning!" - East of Eden by John Steinbeck

It totally depends on my mood. I'll leave it to you to figure out which bands are for which moods, but here are a few:

Soundgarden, Nirvana, L7, The Breeders, Mary Prankster, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphies, Beastie Boys, Hole, Courtney Love, Ciara, Missy Elliott, Elliot Smith, David Bowie, Len, Bif Naked, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Aqua, Abba, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Village People, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Serge Gainsbourg, world music-especially Bhangra, Kiss, Skid Row, G'N'R, Norah Jones, Liz Phair, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Rollins Band, Pantera, Mary J Blige, gospel, RHCP, musical theater soundtracks.....

I'm a little all over the map.
You, yes YOU, whether a PA, a SA, or a SO, are a person of infinite worth and value. You have power far beyond what you know, and strength in abundance. You might not feel like it right now.... but it's true.

What? No Lady Ga Ga? You also forgot the Meat Puppets, Los Straight Jackets and Alice. I catch a lot of flak over ABBA on the musical site I'm on. Big deal. I like ABBA. Marvin Gaye. Good choice, though I like Jackie Wilson a bit more. Just a bit.

Since TTF is all about healing and honesty, I'll confess...

      I like ABBA and Lady Ga-Ga. ~X(

But I'm really ashamed to say I like Styx & Journey... (Oh the embarrassment) LOL!

And while I'm not a fan of Styx, I ........

....'m just a small town girl, Livin in a lonely woooooorld....

      Man, I LOVE Journey!
