[A big apology to johnny5, who had already taken this 10,000 hours angle in his journal. I have just started reading 'Outlier' and took this idea from the book to illustrate just how I came to master a useless habit, and how I so badly want to master something worthwhile in the next 10,000]


...an apparent standard for what it takes to master something completely - 10,000 focused hours. After burning through 10,000 hours of porn in my misguided little life, I would like to remind myself, in public, how I have misused these hours; and that I am finally...and I mean finally ready to adopt a better spending plan.

I want to purchase savvy social skills, a sound body and mind, and lead the pack in my profession. This isn't cheap you know, that will set me back a cool 10,000. [sets 'sober calculator'] So here is to the next 10,000 hours spent, for myself, and for you. (hat)

Ten thousand hours. I agree, that's a lot of life to waste. I am sure I have wasted those same hours on porn. And I think it is worse than wasted. It is time spent actively destroying my integrity and my relationships with my wife and family, with my friends, with God. The good news is that recovery is possible. Welcome to the journey.
