      Default About Time

This is one nasty addiction. I'd quit drinking quite sometime ago...just decided to put the bottle down and haven't looked back. Having an addiction to P is quite different...all consuming. It has cost me dating relationships and a ten year marriage. It's also stolen time from me, and anyone who has gone through the same addiction knows the cost in sleep, productivity and socially.

I can't beat this without help...so here I am writing, reading, learning and most of all committing myself to the first wobbly steps.

Greetings, I am a PA and would like to say that you have made the first right step in this your recovery. Because this addiction is extremely powerful and devious. For this one you may have to look into a twelve step program to help you in your recovery. An you might also consider professional help as well, because you are going to have to look at your past in order to find where and how the "P" addiction started. So, that you can establish a plan of recovery which will allow you to be successful. An you the resources and advice that you find here on TTF to help guide you along the path to recovery.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage and the strength to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

May your feet stay on the path to recovery

      Welcome to TTF,

I, too, am a PA and I would like to let you know that you have made the first two big steps. You have seen you have a problem and you are looking for help.

I would suggest that you read over the articles section, there is so much good information there.

Starting a journal here in the PA section gives you a place to write down your thoughts, ask questions and get responces from other PA's who have gone through what you are going through now.

DG suggested a 12 step program and I would advise you look into it. It may not be the best for you, as every PA is different, but, again, it may help.

The biggest help for me, other than my wife, have been this site and the suggested readings. Reading the SO journals gave me the real impact of my PA on them and the partners forum also gave me a lot of insights.

You have friends here and support. This IS a nasty addiction. you have already proven you can beat addicitons, with the walking away from alcohol. This one will be tougher. This deals with your mind and your emotions, and it will, at some point take a lot of delving deep in yourself for answers. That does not have to be done immediately, but will need to be done.

      Stay Strong.
