      Default A Sad Man

Thanksgiving Day was spent at my inlaw's lake house. A dramatically beautiful setting. All the aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews present.

My H's uncle, the family patriarch, is in mid 60's and quite ill. Confined to a wheelchair & on oxygen.

Sad.. This man was a PB mag collector his entire adult life and although his home and lake house are luxurious, his dirty mags were always stacked somewhere within view. I use to think it was his way of proving he was ' a real man '

He's a very successful businessman and has a very attractive wife. I often wondered why she allowed this in her home.

He was always a quiet, soft spoken man, but now that he is physically ill, he is beginning to make foolish comments of a sxual nature. Others giggled or rolled their eyes, but because this p problem in my own marriage, I was pretty shocked by his words yesterday.

Looking at his frail body in the wheel chair, his drooping eyelids and his skin marked in dark aged spots, it really upset me to hear him make foolish comments about ' how sexy the woman news reporters are on tv ' or talk about how his insomnia has led him to late night viewing of all sorts of sxl and provocative shows on late-night tv.

He was sitting there looking so pathetic and weak, and to listen to his sxual words and thoughts in stark contrast to his physical condition just made me sick.

If he only knew how sad he appeared. Is this the legacy he wants to be remembered for?

It is amazing how often I hear people bash on a belief in God because they think faith will make us puppets of the deity's will. This is a perfect example of how vice (what we like to do) enslaves us, while God's will (the path of virtue) sets us free. There is the obvious evidence of lust, but in more subtle ways the play of pride can be seen as maggie pointed out.

      God Bless,

I'm not sure why I wrote this thread. I know that I looked at this frail man at the Thanksgiving table with sympathy. I thought my sympathy was for what he lost...his vitality, his health and his inability to walk on his own. But, as he made those few foolish comments of a sxl nature, not horrific comments but inappropriate... I felt pity for him as a person. His health was taken by age, but he willingly gave up his integrity and chance to be remembered with respect and honor.

mid 60s in age. most men and even women were reading and looking at pb mag (no internet even in our dreams) without even questioning it.
      H. Hefner was an icon. people didn't even hide the mags, it was coffee table reading.
i wonder how his wife felt when he made those comments. have you spoken with her? she might be (probably is) in pain. his being sick is probably
causing her heartache add to that the crude remarks, and her insides are probably ripped apart. she might need someone to talk to.
it is sad that even with his illness, he hasn't connected the dots.

      StillinLove,

You're right. He's mid 60's and PB mag was kind of a hidden/not so hidden/ok /not ok/ thing in the 70's and 80's. And you're right, he never had internet in his 40's or 50's.

He's not loud obnoxious... making obscene remarks. He was always soft spoken and polite. But, I remember 10 yrs ago that he had PB in his home and I thought it was weird.. women sitting there posing naked and smiling. Silly really. Who does that ?

But now that he's older and so sick, to see him in that wheelchair so droopy and weak and making comments about the sexy news reporters etc... it disturbed me and made me wonder about his PB mag mentality.
