      Default Really ???

There has been a lot of discussion here on how Big Business uses sex and the media to sell products.

We've all seen the woman moaning in the shower to sell some brand of shampoo, and the latest peddler of sexism has been marketing lumpy toed sneakers to 8 year olds to help them to firm their butt !!

The latest body wash for men commercial has a young, pale and skinny looking guy washing up on the beach with their product that " sends women into a frenzy " As he innocently washes up, all of the tall, very thin - model type girls in bikinis are overwhelmed by the aroma of the body wash and are drawn to him as they remove their bikini tops!!

So the message is, if you use this body wash women will strip for you in desperation.
If only the FDA could test out and regulate foolish commercials !!!

Let's see. Take a very regular 20 yo skinny guy, pale skin, non buffed, scraggly beach hair and cover him in this body wash. Then let's see how many girls at the beach chase after him removing their clothing !!

What manipulation and nonsense. It must sell products, but are we all really that gullible ?

No, not all of us. But the man who lives in a fantasy world is that gullible...

Maggie, I hear your frustration over the stupidity, and I am right there with you.

yup, I hear you...it is ridiculous. I am sorry our culture buys into that image so much, but if we all take the steps to change, we are making a small difference. You get enough people thinking/acting like us, and well then we will have something!

If only the FCC would step in and censor useless crap excuses for commercials. Maybe a $12,000 fine for every stupid, sex based commercial aired on TV. Hmmm, that would keep the networks from airing them. Can you imagine how many fines per day?

I don't think its our culture that buys into it so much, I believe we are so desensitized to it that our culture doesn't care. That in itself is a big problem. I feel that network TV is trying hard to compete with cable TV that they try to push the limits to keep viewers watching their shows. Commercials are part of that equation. Sad but true!

And then I find a commercial series, that while having a good looking man shirtless, it's promoting that a certain deodorant (That I LOVE) will make a man more sweet and romantic. Now if only THAT one had been tested true ;)

Its called marketing. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that at all. If it works people buy it...and guess what it does.

All of those on these forums advocating some sort of governmental intervention in this stuff frankly frighten me. Nazi Germany anyone?

If you dont like the commercials dont buy the product. Simple.

I wish it were that " simple " too.

If you don't like the product... don't buy it.

I wish it were that simple ~ that a man or a woman could easily distinguish between being duped or being genuinely informed about the merits of a product.... this is not the case ... or why would we all be here ?

If a man could distinguish between an authentic loving woman that truly cares about him... versus a photo-shopped performer looking to rake in big money... commercials like the one that I have just described.... nor this site TTF.... may not exist!

I guess that most people would not benefit from or even like some of the products being peddled by the media to entice them to buy.

However, man being man, humans being human.... it's easy to get sucked in. Adam & Eve !

All of those on these forums advocating some sort of governmental intervention in this stuff frankly frighten me. Nazi Germany anyone?

I understand what you are saying here Chas. I was being overly dramatic ~ ironic about the governement testing out commercials.

I don't expect our government to get involved with body wash commercials; and I wouldn't want to pay for that from my income taxes !

I just wish we didn't have to have it aired during family programming..

I don't think he'll draw many women, Maggie, but I suspect the sand flies will flock to him just like the beach babes he was hoping to attract. They show the girls, they grab the male viewers. You get your name out there, and perhaps looking down the soap aisle of a Walmart type store, the consumer might grab a bottle of the junk. That's all it is, junk, the commercial, the product and the tv station that airs the commercial.

Nice talking to you, as always.
