Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter has been found guilty of unlawful contact with a minor following an online sex sting operation.

Ritter, an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq, had a sexually graphic online chat in 2009 with an undercover police officer posing as a 15-year-old girl named Emily.

The 49-year-old was convicted on six of seven counts.

Ritter's lawyer said his client did not think he was speaking with a minor.

Ritter, a former US Marine, initiated a conversation through a Yahoo chatroom in February 2009 with police detective Ryan Venneman who was posing as the teenage girl.

Mr Ritter then performed a sex act on himself in front of a web camera, despite the officer's repeated claims that he was 15-years-old.
'Troubled and offended'

Ritter remained silent as the verdict was delivered, while his twin 18-year-old daughters, who were in attendance in the court in Pennsylvania, sobbed.

"The jury reached the right decision," Assistant District Attorney Michael Rakaczewski said after the verdict.

"They saw the case for what it is and the defendant for what he is and what he did," he added.

On Tuesday, prosecutors played a graphic 20-minute video of the exchange between Mr Ritter and Mr Venneman for the jury.

Defence attorney Gary Kohlman acknowledged in his closing argument on Thursday the jurors were likely "troubled and offended" by the graphic chat and video of the conversation.

A decade ago, Mr Ritter was charged in New York with trying to set up a meeting with an undercover police officer posing as a 16-year-old girl.

Those charges - which Mr Ritter claimed were politically motivated - were dismissed after he completed six months of probation.

Due to the nature of television, pretty much all we watch at our house is the news. This story is by no means an isolated incident. This is becoming indicative of people everywhere in our culture. More and more people are trying to abuse younger and younger children. Does the media ever mention the obvious connections to P? Of course not. P has one of the most powerful lobby groups in the world. All forms of media seem to be infected.

Why are people surprised reading these articles?

Hasn't anybody noticed the genitalia considered "hot" in current porn? It resembles hairless pre-pubescent children. Has nobody noticed that bras are being made for 5, 6, 7 year old girls? Where has womans pubic hair gone? Why is it considered 'disgusting', or 'unsexy' - why is there a Brazilian waxing industry?

Has nobody noticed how sexually 'advanced' children are becoming younger and younger? Has not anybody noticed that most of the 'young' porn videos are actually minors? (Under 18).

Has nobody noticed our youth-obsessed culture and how it drives beautiful women to hack up their bodies in order to look younger and therefore "more sexy".

Women used to be celebrated for being the maiden, the mother, and the crone - each period was celebrated and accepted and a woman's value was not based on her 'maidenly beauty'. Everything is about younger, younger, thinner thinner, hotter, sexier, NOW NOW NOW! Porn is the perfect answer to this :(

Sigh. This is nothing new. 1 in 3 women are sexually assaulted or raped in their life time. The ages are becoming more and more blurred thanks to porn, though (in my opinion).

So very sad. The ruined lives. Not just the alleged offender, but his two daughters as well. How will the humiliation of what their father did and was publicly charged with...affect their lives.

All this hurt, humiliation and destruction of innocent lives.....over a few fleeting moments of thrills.

When will men..women...and all of humanity...realize that this type of thinking, feeling and acting out is harmful to the human soul.

I watched a bunch of back-to-back episodes of those Dateline shows last night and it was truly sad and very disturbing that so many men wanted to prey on teenagers (of both sexes). One guy in particular looked like the boy next door type, claimed to be a Christian and a virgin and wanted to have s*x with a 14/15 year old girl. Sick, sick, sick. Get some therapy. I think he got 5 years in jail.

Thats all? He shouldn't even get out. This just shows, how big of a hold, this addiction can get on so many.

Yes, it is addictive, but the media also holds a terrible responsibility here, and they are not accepting it at all and are doing zero to reduce it. It is a sad time for all of us, but also an important time to reach our kids before they are exposed...average age 11.

If this can happen to adult men, or late teens, imagine how confused a younger person can get. There are sad situations where a young man exposed very early can not relate to an adult peer at all. Can you imagine if the only depiction of how the genders relate s-xu=lly is through porn? We are in trouble....
