On the morning of my first day clean a thought popped in my head. A very concrete analogy for this recovery process are the terms positive and negative feedback loop. Recovery, particularly successful recovery is like a positive feedback loop, or (positive + positive=positive or more of the same), for example the albedo effect on mountains: snow accumulation which is produced by low temperatures and low solar radiation, has high albedo (reflectivity) and so reflects radiation and light from the sun. So, adding snow reflects more light, which in turn adds more snow, which reflects more light. A big circle. Negative feedback loop is a failed recovery (positive + negative=negative or change). If you raise the temperature on that mountain, the snow melts, which means less reflection. So, what does this all mean for us. We have to not tolerate the negative habits. We have to keep them out, and when we get urges, instead of going straight to the negative habits, we need to utilize positive habits, which will lead to continued improvement, just like the snow. Instead of leering, we need to change our frame of mind, do something else. Whether resisting is means eye bouncing, three second rule, whatever, we have to refocus our mind so that we can focus on a positive. Sorry. Just popped in my head. Earth Science major
