Default Article on benefit of Integrative Body-Mind Training

This is an article on the benefits of Integrative Body-Mind Training, which is a form of Chinese mediation. I think the article speaks for itself and its relevance is clear to anyone to anyone who struggles with addiction.

Integrative body-mind training (IBMT) meditation found to boost brain connectivity

I think practicing some sort of meditation is absolutely key to beating this thing (other things like exercise and medication may have the same effect to some extent). Scientists have shown that addiction has a number of effects on the brain, the following are some of the reasons why addicts find it difficult to recover:

      1) Lower number of dopamine receptors - which means that addicts do not get the same level of enjoyment from day to day activities. It also causes binging and escalation as the addicts seeks a bigger hit.

      2) Learned behaviors and association through the effects of glutamate - which means that an addict will develop engrained habits long after the reward obtained from the activity are no longer there. This may have something to do with the OC behaviors of some addicts in relation to their addiction, or the way they still seek it out when they receive no real pleasure from it, or the way certain environments (eg being home alone) trigger the addiction.

      3) Shrinking of the pre-frontal cortex - which means that the addict is less able to resist temptation or delay satisfaction (ie the benefits of being free of the addiction v temporary high of succumbing to it).

IBMT seems to have a benefit in relation to number 3. This would allow the addict to counter the effects of numbers 1 and 2 above and give the brain an ability to recover.

I have not been able to find too much information on how to actually do IMBT. If anyone can find anything, please let me know.

I practice meditaion nightly and it seems to work because its all about thought control like not focussing on thoughts rather acknowledging them and letting them pass also I find it very calming so yes I definatly think it has many possitive benifits
