I like what you are doing here, but I know what I am going to say, is not going to count in your poll, but I just need to say this. You know me, I just say what comes to my mind.

I do have a filter in place on my computer. Yes I do feel that it helps. But in say this, I wont lie,I do know the password, I can turn off the filter anytime I want to, So yes I can do and look at whatever I want to. But it still helps me. I click on a site, and when I am not able to view it, because this filter blocks it, them I feel in my heart, that I should not look at it. So I leave it at that.

There may be a time, when I may really need to talk to OUR filter Guru, Phil, and ask him to really help me in setting it up for me. In my head I call him Dr. Phil-ter.

But here is why I still dont worry about have someone else hold the password. Now I am only saying this, because this is my recovery, and I do know what I should look at and what I really need to stay away from. Can I be kidding myself, and I am opening myself up to a possible slip in the coming days, weeks, months? Yes maybe. But I guess I will deal with this soon, so it wont happen. All I can say for ME, is that right now, my recovery is working for ME.
I do think that filters are very important, in our recovery, if we want it to work. we need to do what we feel is best to get us thru this addiction. Only WE know what this is that can beat our problem, and make us a better person.

With that said, I have found that No filter, No meeting. No person, No one at all, can keep me from looking, and acting out, if I really wanted to look, and go deep in to porn. There are ALWAYS ways around anything, if we truly want to give in, and view it.

Right now, in my life, yes I am self centered. It is all about Gerald. Am I sorry for say this and having this attitude? Not in the least. Right now I have just one focus I look at in life, And that is fixing Gerald. And as of right now, there is nothing, or anybody, that can even take that focus away from me.

I feel that I am doing good in my recovery, and I feel as of right now, what I am doing, I am doing right. but dont get me wrong, the very second, that I feel that it is not working, I will put a new action in place. I am dumb, but I am not stupid.

To end this post, I will say this , then I will be quite. No one, anywhere, any place, or at any time, can not beat this addiction, if it is not in their HEARTS, to do so. If we can not convince US that we really want to beat this, then we will fail every time.

So I guess the filter is working, but it is the filter, that I installed in my HEART, that is making me work my recovery

That's great. I can say, for sure, that wouldn't work for me. If I knew the password, I might as well not have the filter at all.

No one, anywhere, any place, or at any time, can not beat this addiction, if it is not in their HEARTS, to do so. If we can not convince US that we really want to beat this, then we will fail every time.

So true. For me, the filter is a tool I use to reinforce, not take the place of, the resolve in my heart. That's because I'm the weakest guy you'll ever meet. My resolve is always strong right after I act out, but a week or so later, my resolve can melt away in the face of temptations. The filter protects me from myself when my willpower falters.

I have been on both sides of the coin. I have gone a couple of months and more on 3 occassions without a filter. I never wanted the filter to be my crutch.

Currently, I am on the other side of that coin. I have K9 on my laptop and I am a week away from 30 days- which is the most I have done in over a year.

I am computer savy, so filters generally just give me a challenge. I did struggle with that about 10 days ago, but once I got over that and understood the true function of the filter, I have found it to be a calming effect in my recovery.

INOH is spot on- it is our hearts that must direct our recovery. Personally, I believe we need the filter until we can begin standing on our own. It protects us against ourselves until we develope habits and lifestyles that support the life we want to live.

      You are right Rouby

I do stand corrected on this. I do have my recovery in place, for my P addiction. But as I found out today, that I forgot one thing in my recovery. This is, that when I am in a pissed off mood, I can not drink. when I am in a pissed mood and I drink, I dont stop drinking, then I can get week, and be triggered real easy to go to my addiction. I almost threw all my hard work in the trash today, by drinking. Then I really wanted to view P. I tell you, someone must have been watching over me, because as soon as I wanted to click away, I lost my internet connection. And as soon as I cooled off, and all the urges where gone, I kid you not, my connection started working right away.
My lesson from this? No drinking is now part of my recovery, because I just proved to myself, that I will view P if I am drinking. I have to reset my mind and heart in my recovery now
AND I WILL FOLLOW THE ADVICE FROM EVERYONE THAT YES, I DO NEED A FILTER IN PLACE.
This is what Dr. Phil-ter, has been telling us all alone, and I thought I didn't need it. I Do need it. IT will be set up right tomorrow, and I will not know the password

So change my vote to yes on the filter please. I was only kidding myself. Im glad I am still clean

Thank you guys for all of your replies.

I just thought this would be an interesting poll. I know for myself that I need a filter, at least for now. I was just curious about the general consensus.....

      Very good poll Y.

I cant remember who told me this so apologies for the lack of credit, but I was told from a member on this site to think of the filter like stabilisers on a bicycle. I used my stabilisers for ages, and now I can ride comfortably, if ever I feel a little wobble, I have learnt to put my feet straight down firmly to regain my balance, before setting off again. Without my stabilisers I would have had many many crashes! 3 years plus, not one crash :)
