Default Packer to skip 'porn sunday'

This is an article I read this morning on the comcast website. I thought it was appropriate, given the nature of our addiction and the magnitude of exposure for Super Bowl Sunday. Oh boy do I HATE the Green Bay Packers, but I just have to respect Ryan Pickett, in addition, Matt Hasselbeck and Jon Kitna for being outspoken against porn addiction.

Reaching Super Bowl XLV has its drawbacks for Ryan Pickett, with the Green Bay defensive end forced to miss National Porn Sunday — an anti-pornography event he was due to attend, NBC Sports reported Saturday.

Pickett sits on the board of directors of xxxchurch.com, an online resource for people struggling with pornography addiction and a sponsor of the religious event in Addison, Tex.

The event will broadcast its anti-porn message to 300 churches across the country on Feb. 6, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

At the same time, Pickett will be about 30 miles away at Cowboys Stadium taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers. To make up for his absence, Pickett created a video message that will be played at National Porn Sunday.

"I would love to have been with you guys today. But fortunately, I'm a little busy," Pickett says in the tape, adding: "Go Packers."

Pickett said he had never struggled with porn addiction, but got involved with the ministry because he was concerned about its prevalence.

NFL quarterbacks Matt Hasselbeck of the Seahawks and Jon Kitna of the Cowboys also appear in the video, with Hasselbeck saying the ministry helped save his marriage.

Former NFL quarterback Josh McCown also speaks in the message, saying pornography was “taking me some place I didn’t want to go” and he had to stop.
If High profile players are coming out against pornography during the biggest stage in Football, maybe there is hope for people to change their views and not make pornography socially acceptable. It's not just the average people who succumb to this problem, many different people from all walks of life.

I for one am incredibly inspired by this article, and I hope some of you are as well?

One more thing to note... I wish there would be some anti-porn commercials for the Superbowl. Instead, we get a series of new commercials that try to out-do previous years. More and More we see risque commercials advertising Alcohol & other products in a seductive manner.

Either way, this is still a step in the right direction.

Interesting website. Too preachy and religious for my taste but I did have a chuckle at a couple of the signs that they have put up in Dallas advertising their event.

Thanks for sharing AG, it would have been great to now what the actual reaction was from the crowd after seeing that. I would have expected a lot of Boo's from the majority.

ArtGuy, thanks for sharing this I feel it is a huge step in the fight against the P in this world and a big step for decency in our society. I went and read a bit on there site and watched some videos and found them to be in great taste with what we're feeling here at TTF. I give those NFL players great kudos for speaking up and I see it's run by the Fireproof ministries which I believe put out the movie "Fireproof" which had a very good message in it and got me on the "Love Dare" book which I'm finding very valuable!... Thanks again ArtGuy!

      Thanks Guys!

I thought this was awesome simply because of the nature of how "Manly" football is and how marketing agencies use sex appeal to heighten the interest. Plus, to see such well known players speaking up is a huge step in the right direction.

      HR,
I'm going to look up the "Love Dare" book and check it out. Thanks for posting about it!

artguy, I saw this and totally agree -- it is very awesome, especially given how "manly" football is. My husband is a monster NFL fan, and am trying to figure out how to tell him about this...I'm relatively hesitant to bring up p at the moment, don't want to rock the boat! The sea is calm right now. :)

Yes Astander, you walk a fine line in regards to telling him or not. I can totally understand your hesitation. I remember Crisodian telling me that at times during our relationship, she felt like she was walking on eggshells when she would approach topics of discussion. Thankfully, we are beyond that and have been since early on in our recovery.

You may get lucky and the announcers may make a mention of it during the game about the Packer player? One can only hope?

Or... you can simply print out the article, leave it in a place where you may have "forgotten" about it, so your h can "accidentally" find it and read it. Then if he asks you about it, then you can answer honestly and say you saw the article online and thought it was very interesting. You can also add that it was very uplifting for you to see popular athletes speaking up against it, and how good you feel about your h's change in attitude recently. Maybe some positive reinforcement will open up some channels of communication?

(Just a suggestion) You must do what you feel is right of course!

The fact that Not Using P is picking up as a "healthier alternative" than mass consumption of P on a national scale... That's really good news.

I'm glad to hear this. In my wildest dreams, I can see a nationwide discussion on the topic as it is dragged (kicking and screaming) into the light of day.

OK, I don't have time to read through all the posts here, but I was just flicking through a news feed and saw that there may be no cheerleaders this year? Is that accurate?
