Default Pleasure vs. hapiness - 08-12-2008, 10:50 AM
I was thinking, while driving tonight about the difference between pleasure and happiness. I think this is important, and that is especially applies to PA.

Pleasure is temporary, but rarely leads to lasting hapiness and contentment. When we are addicted to pleasure seeking, we are rarely happy, unless we are getting the pleasure we are after all the time, which is usually just about impossible.

When we don't get the pleasure we have trained ourselves to desire, we are unhappy and discontent. Ironically, getting more pleasure can often lead to more unhappiness from my point of view. The more you pleasure seek, the less happy you are when you don't get your fix of whatever it is you want.

Porn offers us quick pleasure, but it's not something that we can ever have and hold onto. It is fleeting and temporary, and leaves us wanting more and more.

Learning to cultivate lasting happiness and contentment is one of the keys to recovery from my experience. Just thought I would share my revelation in case it helps anybody else out there

Of course this doesn't mean pleasure is bad, or that we can't enjoy a nice meal, a movie, or treat ourselves from time to time, but it does help me at least to think about this...

I agree 100%. With porn you're left with a feeling of guilt and shame, sure you get temporary pleasure, but you feel like crap later on. It never leads to happiness, it leaves you empty inside. Not to mention you're unhappy until you get your next fix.

Happiness is what we're all after I think, but it's different from a quick rush. Happiness lasts for a long time, the pleasure from porn only lasts a very brief time.

Default These lyrics come to mind - 08-13-2008, 06:43 PM
I've got it all, but I feel so deprived
I go up, I come down and I'm emptier inside
Tell me what is this thing that I feel like I'm missing
And why can't I let it go

There's gotta be more to life...
Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me
Cause the more that I'm...
Trippin' out thinkin' there must be more to life
Well it's life, but I'm sure... There's gotta be more

- Stacy Orrico - More to Life

When I was young it seemed that life was so wonderful.... a miracle. Oh it was beautiful, magical.
