“60-seconds” with City Fool
September 16, 2010
Daniel:
What single event (or events) led you to believe you had a problem with P or
MB?
City Fool: The fact that I was feeling a great deal of stress during and after viewing.
Daniel: Can the stress be broken into component parts, e.g., guilt, shame, self-loathing, etc.?
City Fool: All of the above and the feeling of perhaps being less of the person I really am.
Daniel: What do you like about TTF? Feel free to narrow it down if you
wish.
City Fool: The support. The views of the SO's more than anything. The fact that I'm not alone in this mess.
Daniel: Is there any specific person you would like to single out for their helpfulness?
City Fool: There's quite a few; Yourself, Cris.
Daniel: What advice would you give to the younger generation regarding P?
City Fool: It's a trap. It separates you from real life and real people. It hurts people. Many people.
Daniel: What is your best 'avoidance' strategy to keep you free and clear?
City Fool: Being with people. Being alone is the most difficult time to fight the urges.
Daniel: OK. So you're alone. What do you do? As an example, you know you will be alone for a specified time. What will you do to avoid falling back in?
City Fool: Stay away from the computer. Try to halt the obsessive thought patterns. Stay busy.
Daniel: Very good. What is the single most important aspect of your being free?
City Fool: Self respect. Not compromising my moral standards. Being the person my grand daughters think I am.
Daniel: A high calling to be sure. There is a lot of lattitude on what a relapse is. What is it to you?
City Fool: Whew!
Daniel: Take your time!
City Fool: Giving in to the urges. P is fairly easy to avoid but the urges are tricky. They strike without warning. And they are very powerful.
Daniel: There you go! Thank you for being willing to do this City Fool.
City Fool: My pleasure. I hope I imparted something of use to the site. I hope the members will view me as a person with a problem but a decent person.
Daniel: I can assure you that is exactly the opinion!
City Fool: Thanks for your time and not putting me on the spot!
As a corollary, City Fool and I went on to have a great conversation in Chat. I encourage the membership to use this under-utilized feature of TTF –it’s a great tool, particularly if you have a “Right Now” sort of need to talk to someone, almost in real life.
Best Regards again to City Fool for being willing to bare his soul for the benefit of the TTF Membership.
