I recently ran across something that has helped me. One of my problems is that I am in an office with high speed internet access and a closed door doing work all day. Sure, I could leave the door open but in the past it has been simply too easy to close it. What I've wanted is a means of blocking those P sites that I used to frequent. I've avoided discussing this with the IT person for obvious reasons and have avoided installing blocking software for fear of damaging the office system. I located an article on "Yahoo Answers" responding to the question "How can I block selected sites in internet explorer?" Those of you who are more computer savvy than I will understand when I say that it has to do with editing the Windows HOSTS file with notepad. It has worked. Now, when I type in a P site url I get the Windows error page. I can certainly undo this but it would take time to locate the HOSTS file and do all the deletions and get back to "acting out." This is all the time I need to let the impulse pass and get back to my senses. There is probably a quick and easy way around this that takes less time but I don't want to know about it. In this instance, ignorance is bliss or at least preferred. Offered in the hope that it may help someone else. |
